During a phone interview with Politico, the president said that he was certainly ready to work with the new Congress in order to “make sure things go well for our country.”

When the outlet pressed for more specifics, asking directly whether he would work with Democrats on immigration, he replied, “I’d consider doing whatever I think is appropriate and good for the country.”

The president also told Politico that at the end of the day, some of the Republican candidates just hadn’t resonated with voters — but stopped short of calling them out by name: “I don’t want to blame anybody. I just want to say, you know, it was — it was a very interesting period of time. I watched with great interest, learned from it.”

He took a similar position when he spoke with The New York Times, saying that he was happy to work with Democrats as long as they brought him “good ideas.”

“I have total veto power, so they have to come to us,” he pointed out. “And if they have some good ideas, I’m certainly open to working.”

Trump told Fox News that he had initially been surprised by the extent of the Republican losses in Tuesday’s midterm elections, saying that he’d expected better results after seeing the response to Republicans on the campaign trail.

“I thought we would do better. We had tremendous rallies, thousands of people outside let alone inside that couldn’t get in,” he said, and then posted on Truth Social that he believed Republicans would have done much better across the board if he had been on the ballot as well.

He also used a Fox News election night interview to remind Democrats that he still had veto power: “They’ll send over things that are insane and I’ll veto them. And after a couple of months of vetoes, they’ll go out and they’ll say, ‘How do we get this stuff done?’ And we’ll work together.”

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
