Trump administration officials have reportedly nicknamed the investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) “World War Eleven,” a mocking reference to the congresswoman’s viral gaffe about World War II, as federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., home Monday morning.

A senior Trump administration official told the Washington Post that the investigation had accelerated in recent weeks and was viewed as controversial within the administration, with some officials referring to it as “World War Eleven.”
The phrase recalls a resurfaced video of Omar mistakenly referring to World War II as “World War Eleven” during a Democratic news conference last year. Omar quickly corrected herself, saying “Oh, two,” and laughing.
Federal agents searched Omar’s Washington, D.C. residence early Monday as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. The Justice Department confirmed that Homeland Security Investigations, the investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, had executed a judicially authorized search warrant but did not identify Omar or disclose the specific focus of the investigation.
“Today in the Washington, D.C. area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice,” the department told The Daily Wire. “This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.”
The investigation reportedly centers on immigration paperwork completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child. Omar arrived in the United States as a refugee from Somalia in 1995 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2000. She has repeatedly denied allegations of immigration fraud.
Omar responded to the search, accusing the administration of targeting her for political reasons.
“Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar wrote. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”
“I will not be silenced,” she added.
The search follows public comments from senior administration officials about an investigation into Omar’s immigration history. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said last month that an investigation was ongoing.
White House border czar Tom Homan also confirmed in September that an “ongoing criminal investigation” into Omar was underway, though he declined to provide details.
