Trump Returns To The Midwest As White House Celebrates Illegal Immigration Crackdown

The White House is heralding President Donald Trump’s efforts to secure the border and crack down on illegal immigration as he returns to Ohio to make his pitch to midterm voters.

Trump will rally with supporters Monday night in Youngstown as he continues to campaign across the country as Republicans face tough headwinds heading into November. Ahead of his appearance, the White House highlighted multiple illegal aliens arrested in the rustbelt city for murder, sexual assault, and fraud. 

“Radical Democrats allowed criminals to pour into our country, released them unvetted into American communities, and now they want to abolish ICE,” White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis told The Daily Wire. “In sharp contrast, President Trump supercharged law enforcement to arrest the worst of the worst.”

Trump’s visit to Ohio comes as Republicans are battling to keep control of the governor’s mansion and a critical Senate seat.

In the governor’s race, GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is running against Democrat Amy Acton, who led the state’s health department during the height of the COVID pandemic. GOP Senator Jon Husted is facing a stiff challenge from former Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown as Republicans look to cling to the Senate majority. An accumulation of polls show Brown with an average lead of just over three points.

Youngstown is an economically distressed city in northeastern Ohio where voters have previously resonated with the president’s message of bringing back industry and targeting illegal immigrants. Trump won Ohio all three times he ran for president and the state has shifted to the Right politically since 2016. 

The White House shared a list of illegal immigrants arrested in Youngstown under Trump including:

• Selvin Gonzalez Lopez, an illegal alien from Guatemala arrested for homicide
• Luis Serna-Ramirez, an illegal alien from Mexico arrested for sexual assault and illegal re-entry
• Slobodan Dijanic, an illegal alien from Yugoslavia arrested for aggravated assault with a gun.
• Fabian Arredondo Mendoza, an illegal alien from Mexico arrested on drug charges 
• Karla Osorto Hernandez, an illegal alien from Honduras arrested for fraud

“These are just some of the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens President Trump has removed from Ohio,” Bis told The Daily Wire, adding that the immigration crackdown led to a decrease in crime across the country. “These common sense policies to target criminal illegal aliens have contributed to the largest decrease in violent crime in American history.” 

Violent crime rates have fallen in recent years with the murder rate declining to 4.1 per 100,000 in 2025, the lowest since the 1950s. Overall violent crime fell 9% in 2025, which the FBI said was the largest year-to-year drop since the 1930s.
