Vance Gives Blunt Midterm Pitch: ‘Elect The Common-Sense People’

Vice President JD Vance offered voters a blunt choice Thursday, arguing that Americans who want “safety and security and prosperity” should choose Republicans over Democrats in November.

Daily Wire White House Correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan asked Vance during the White House press briefing to give his “elevator pitch” for why Americans should support Republicans in the midterms.

“Do you want to live in a country that has safety and security and prosperity?” Vance said. “If the answer is yes, and I think most Americans do, then vote for congressional Republicans over congressional Democrats on every single issue.”

Vance, who leads the White House task force targeting government fraud, began by pointing to the administration’s efforts to crack down on waste and fraud in federal benefit programs.

“The Democrats have taken the side of fraudsters, of criminals, and of far-left interest groups over the side of the American people,” Vance said.

He argued that Republican efforts to reduce fraud in Medicaid and food stamp programs are ultimately aimed at ensuring benefits reach the people who are supposed to receive them while protecting taxpayers.

“Democrats have fought for the fraudsters, and Republicans have fought for the people who deserve these benefits and the American taxpayers who are paying those benefits,” he said.

Vance then turned to the administration’s record on energy and crime. He accused Democrats of opposing expanded American energy production and resisting efforts to imprison violent offenders and support law enforcement.  

“We have had, I think, the most successful anti-crime policy maybe in the history” of the country, Vance said, citing a drop in violent crime during the administration’s first 18 months.

The vice president also invoked Michigan’s closely watched Senate race between Republican Mike Rogers and Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed.

Vance attacked El-Sayed during a campaign appearance in Michigan earlier this week, calling him “very, very evil” and accusing him of promoting racial and religious divisions. El-Sayed has faced scrutiny over past comments about violence against Jews and has sought to repair his relationship with Michigan’s Jewish community.

During Thursday’s briefing, Vance accused El-Sayed of supporting policies that sent American manufacturing jobs overseas and cast Republicans as defenders of domestic industry. 

“We are the people who have been fighting for the jobs of Michigan auto workers,” Vance said.

“My argument to the American people is not that you’re going to agree with us on every issue,” he said. “But they’re a bunch of crazy people. Elect the common-sense people to Washington, and we’ll keep on doing great work.”
