An officer responded to a reported vehicle theft when they were stopped by an angry student with blue hair.
“Why do you let those pigs get away with this?” The student screamed in body-cam footage
obtained by Inside the Blue TV, seemingly complaining about the police presence. “They are not supposed to be here.”
The officer responded, “If you don’t lower your voice, I am going to put handcuffs on you, and I am going to take you to a Baker Act [mental health] facility,” referring to Florida’s involuntary mental health law.
“F*cking try it,” the student replied.
“Are you threatening me?” the officer asked.
“You are threatening me!” the student said.
The officer requested that the police department dispatch another officer, saying, “He is having a breakdown.” The student erupted, shouting, “SHE! SHE-AYYYEEE! Just say the right pronoun!” while making a motion toward the officer.
The officer pulled out pepper spray and walked toward the student, telling him to get down on the ground. The student refused, shouting “Leave me alone,” running to the door of the school’s mail room, then pulling out his phone to film the scene.
“PLEEEEZE! PLEEEEZE! JUST STOP POINTING THE PEPPER SPRAY AT ME. I WILL CALM DOWN IF YOU DO THAT! STOP THREATENING ME!” the student screamed, stopping on the ground.
A school administrator came in, apparently attempting to lower the tension.
“F*CK YOU, F*CK YOU, COP.” the student screamed.
The administrator asked if the student could leave, but the officer said that “It’s too late now. He needs to be taken.”
“SHE!! SHE!!” the student screamed, stomping his foot on the ground and yelling at the police officer to stop “misgendering” him.
At that moment, another officer arrived on the scene. The student continued to resist arrest and attempted to barricade himself behind a keycard barrier. The second officer was able to get one hand cuffed, but the student used the other to hit him. He then tried to grab his microphone, and was able to kick the officer. After the first officer swept the student off his legs, the police were finally able to subdue and arrest him.
“I hate you all. I hate you. You escalated this. You didn’t have to pull out the pepper spray. You didn’t have to misgender me. You knew my buttons and you set them off,” the student said as he was being escorted out of the building.
The student, identified later to be Jarrett Vick, told the New York Post he was being “f*cking harassed by the cops,” and blamed them for his bad publicity in the media.
Court documents obtained by The Post charged Vick with battery on law enforcement, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. Vick pleaded not guilty on all three charges. His last court appearance was listed for January 16, but the case is marked as closed for an unknown reason.
Vick’s court records list him as a male.
