NBC Los Angeles confirmed that the aircraft was its NewsChopper4.

Four people were assessed at the scene, with three pronounced dead and a fourth transported to a local hospital in unknown condition, according to the department.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said 56 firefighters responded just before 7 p.m. to the crash between two commercial buildings at 9151 N. Mason Ave. in Chatsworth.

One of the victims was a pedestrian in the parking lot, according to LAFD Capt. Branden Silverman. Authorities did not immediately say whether the other victims were aboard the helicopter or on the ground.

The crash sparked a fire that damaged four vehicles and two storage containers before firefighters extinguished the flames, according to LAFD. No nearby structures were exposed to the fire.

Authorities did not immediately say how many people were aboard the helicopter.

Local outlets reported that several TV news helicopters were in the area covering a deadly crash involving a Metro bus.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass mourned the victims of the crash.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
