Angry Women Are Paying Thousands Of Dollars To Go On ‘Rage Retreats’

Angry women screaming into the void is nothing new, but now some are paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars for the privilege. 

So-called “rage retreats” are gaining traction, and the organizers are making a killing on the concept. Per a Bloomberg report, Kristina McMenamin’s popular RAGEher sessions see attendees paying up to $95 for 2.5 hours of pure anger expression. These events started in Chicago but have grown in scope and popularity. The outlet noted that the events often sell out and have waiting lists. More than 20% of attendees are repeat customers.

The business model has been on fire over the last few years. Mia Banducci, who goes by Mia Magik, became famous on TikTok for her Rage Ritual retreats. Her retreats run six days, with a group screaming ritual in the woods as the centerpiece, and cost up to $4,000 per person. 

For a more spiritual component, there are Holy Rage Retreats. This $600 half-day retreat includes a meditative session and a guided ritual that, according to Bloomberg, aims to help women “express their rage through screams, growls and other ‘expressive behaviors.’”

Smaller versions of this spectacle also exist, with some women offering “smash parties” or other anger-expression-focused outlets in their backyards for as little as $25, Bloomberg noted. Rachel Mehl spoke about hosting one such event after becoming angry over her cancer diagnosis and having no singular person to address it with. 

“I’m not a violent or aggressive person by any means,” she told the outlet. “I’ve never been in a fistfight. I’m not a yeller. But punching and kicking that bag while screaming my face off was exactly what I needed to process and release all of those big emotions that had nowhere else to go.”

Most of these events cater only to women. But Love Your Rage in London is more inclusive and invites “womxn, femmes and gender non-conforming individuals” to participate and “be held in a circle of sisters, and supported every step of the way as you rediscover your wild within.”
