AOC Has A ‘Girl’s Girl’ Explanation For Defending ‘Trans Rights’

Leftist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed being a “girl’s girl” led her to stand up for the rights of men who identify as women.

“I don’t support the rights of trans people, just to protect my own rights. But I support the rights of trans women because I’m a girl’s girl,” Ocasio-Cortez said Thursday as she appeared at a town hall in support of Maine Senate candidate Troy Jackson. “What is so important for everyone to understand is that the moment you compromise the rights of a trans person in America, you compromise the rights of every citizen.”

The New York Democrat attacked members of her party who have backtracked on their support for transgender ideology.

“They’re wrong,” she said when asked by a transgender-identifying college student why many Democrats were abandoning the issue. “And first and foremost, I want to just let you know how shameful and sorry I am that there are people out there that scare so easily after an election.”

A number of Democrats running for Congress have openly claimed to oppose transgender ideology. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) ran an ad claiming to have supported keeping the ideology out of schools while Iowa Democrat Sarah Trone Garriott says she doesn’t want boys who identify as girls to be able to play on female sports teams. Others have dodged the issue or refused to engage on the topic.

Ocasio-Cortez, who is reportedly considering a run for president in 2028, also accused the Trump administration of using the issue of transgenderism to go after Title IX, which prevents discrimination on the basis of sex in educational institutions that receive federal funding.

“It’s about attacking Title IX. Title IX is the federal protection for all gender equality and all women to be protected in accessing a higher education. And what the Trump administration is doing, in targeting trans people, is to get everyone on board with supporting, defunding their own civil rights in going to college,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

She also claimed that the Trump administration’s effort to keep sports separate by sex weakened protections against rape and sexual assault.

“Understand that when they attack trans girls in sports, they’re also attacking all women’s ability to stand up against their abusers, their rapists, and their assaulters on campuses across America,” she said.

The Biden administration attempted to redefine Title IX to include protections for so-called “gender identity,” which would have paved the way for courts to legally force schools to let boys in girls’ bathrooms and on sports teams. The Trump administration has reversed course and removed gender identity from federal statutes and has challenged schools that allow males into private female spaces.
