Calls For Another Migrant Border Invasion Force Spain And Morocco To Take Action

Spain and Morocco have boosted security around Spain’s African enclave Ceuta following calls for another Moroccan migrant border rush, two weeks after a migrant invasion left at least 96 people dead.

Soldiers have been watching commercial and government buildings in Ceuta while police are patrolling main streets, according to Reuters. Along the Moroccan border, security guards were seen on the beaches of Fnideq, one of the primary locations from which migrants illegally rushed Ceuta, Fox News reported.

Morocco has arrested multiple people who circulated calls on social media for another migrant invasion into both Ceuta and Melilla, another Spanish African enclave.

“The Ministry of the Interior has detected, during the last few days, the circulation of anonymous publications and messages on certain social networks inciting the organization of attempts at collective and illegal crossing to the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, practices which carry serious risks to the safety of people and aim to instrumentalize migration issues in acts of incitement, which are criminalized by law,” the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior said in a statement, according to Fox News.

Meanwhile, Spain is still trying to remove Moroccan migrants from the first mass invasion. About 5,000 migrants are still in Spain out of the 72,000 who originally rushed Ceuta, the outlet reported.

Spain has processed about 500 asylum seekers and rejected most of their applications.

In late July, more than 70,000 migrants, mostly young men, entered Ceuta from Morocco by swimming or jumping border barriers, The Daily Wire reported. The migrants chanted “Bye Bye Morocco, hello Spain,” and video online showed one man pooping in the street. One Ceuta local described the event as an “apocalypse.”

“Businesses closed. Shops shut because if you open a business, it gets overrun. … We’re scared,” another local, a restaurant owner, said. “The streets are packed. There are no measures in place. It’s every man for himself. They’re not giving us any help.”

Earlier this year, Spain’s socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez created opportunities for one million migrants to receive amnesty. Still, Sánchez condemned the rush of migrants, saying the event “deserves our full reproach, our condemnation at the strongest possible level of rejection, condemnation, and consideration as deplorable.”

Meanwhile, Santiago Abascal of the Right-wing party Vox said Sánchez encouraged the migrant flood.

“They’re not fleeing from war or poverty. It’s an invasion,” he said. “They are military-aged men invited by Pedro Sanchez’s corrupt government to storm our borders so they can roam Spain’s streets shouting ‘Viva Pedro Sanchez.’”
