Several American Islamic organizations, including one that protested The Daily Wire’s “Run Hide Fight: Infidels,” have overlapping ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.

The Muslim Brotherhood, which is designated as a terrorist organization in whole by the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and in part by the United States, developed a plan to embed, influence, and advance political Islam throughout the world. Founded in Egypt in the 1920s, the organization has become the world’s most “influential Islamist organization,” according to the nonpartisan Council on Foreign Relations. The group’s offshoots and related groups include Al-Qaeda, ISIS, Al-Shabab, Hamas, and many others.

They also include organizations working in the heart of America.

By 1991, the Muslim Brotherhood’s network in America already comprised 29 organizations, including the Islamic Society of North America, the Muslim Students Association (MSA), and the Muslim Youth of North America. According to the Brotherhood’s own documents, the organization’s ultimate goal is “a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

The MSA’s Vanderbilt chapter released a statement in September condemning “Run Hide Fight: Infidels” and a screening of the movie by the university’s TPUSA chapter.

“For decades, these stereotypes have fueled racism, xenophobia, and hate against Muslims, particularly in the 25 years since 9/11. Our own community is not an exception. Over the past three years, Muslims at Vanderbilt have faced harassment, physical intimidation, and hostility amid the genocide in Palestine,” it said. “Free speech does not require our silence in the face of rhetoric that dehumanizes our people. Muslim students deserve the same concern and protection afforded to other communities on campus.”

Today, the MSA has hundreds of loosely affiliated campuses; at its founding, it distributed English translations of Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leader Sayyid Qutb, whose writings “argue that governments not based on sharia are apostate and therefore legitimate targets of jihad.”

In fact, these writings espoused that “Jews and Christians had distorted their original beliefs in the infallibility of God’s law by conceding legislative power to secular authority, they were jahiliyya — the enemy,” and thus Muslims were justified and indeed charged with carrying out jihad.

“Several of its leaders have been convicted of terrorism, prompting some terror experts to call the MSA a recruiting tool for jihad,” wrote Erick Stakelbeck of Christian Broadcasting Network.

Anwar al-Awlaki, a former MSA president at Colorado State University, became a leading preacher in Al-Qaeda. Seeing other radicalizing Muslims leaving the U.S. to participate in Qaeda operations in the Middle East, al-Awlaki “began to urge young followers to stay at home and mount attacks there, praising the U.S. Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan as a hero for killing 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas, and loading Inspire with practical instructions for bombing and shooting, under the rubric ‘Open Source Jihad,'” according to a West Point Combating Terrorism Center paper.

Al-Awlaki’s instructions also proved instrumental in the Boston Marathon bombings, and the Charlie Hebdo shooters reportedly told a French TV station that they slaughtered the satirical newspaper’s writers on Sheik Anwar al-Awlaki’s behalf.

Al-Shabab leader Omar Hammami formerly served as president of the University of South Alabama’s MSA.

Ramy Zamzam served as the president of Washington, D.C.’s MSA council; he was later arrested for traveling to Pakistan to join the Taliban and kill American troops. After serving prison time in Pakistan, he was released to the U.S., serving a single day in jail. Today, he works as a paralegal with Legal Aid DC while completing a master’s degree.

When Zamzam left the U.S. to pursue holy war, his family contacted the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the FBI to bring him back to the U.S., but they were unable to do so.

The FBI severed its ties with CAIR in 2008 due to its links to the Muslim Brotherhood, and one Gulf country, the UAE, has outlawed the group due to its radical ties. Even the Biden administration had to distance itself from the group, which previously advised the administration, after CAIR leadership openly praised the October 7 massacre.

CAIR has proven a highly effective entity for the Muslim Brotherhood; in 2013, CAIR convinced the Associated Press (AP) and newsrooms across the country to instruct their reporters to avoid the word “Islamist” when describing Islamic terrorists. Celebrating the AP directive, CAIR said they did not want the term to be used “almost exclusively as an ill-defined pejorative.”

CAIR is also behind some of the most radical candidates across the country.

The Unity & Justice Fund, the super PAC controlled by CAIR’s lobbying arm, CAIR Action, has spent nearly $200,000 on Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign. Tayeb Jukaku, El-Sayed’s father-in-law, sits on the board of CAIR-Michigan and donated $300,000 to the Fighting For Michigan PAC, a fund associated with CAIR and El-Sayed’s campaign.

The Unity & Justice Fund also spent at least $100,000 backing now-Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s election in New York City.

Other CAIR affiliates and board members have donated to Rashida Tlaib, Keith Ellison, and David Kim, among others.

Some GOP actors have connections to CAIR as well. Tarek Hussein recently served as a delegate to the Republican Party of Texas State Convention; he also founded CAIR-Houston and donated to Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Al Green (D-TX). Another delegate, Amjad Muhtaseb, serving as the director of the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Muslim American Society-Houston, donated to El-Sayed’s campaign.

Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated groups have also made a significant impact on K-12 and college campuses.

Basim Elkarra, national executive director and founding treasurer of CAIR-Action, was the executive director at CAIR Sacramento Valley’s chapter, and now serves on the Twin Rivers Unified School District school board.

“Credible reports that CAIR is partnering with K-12 schools to push a radical curriculum are deeply troubling,” said Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI), chair of the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

CAIR is accused of promoting sanitized 9/11 materials to school systems across the country. Their materials recommend avoiding terms such as jihad when discussing the 9/11 attacks.

Hatem Bazian, a professor at UC Berkeley and a former member of the MSA, founded the first Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), the organization that coordinated and arranged protests, riots, and encampments in support of October 7 and “Palestinian resistance.” He also founded and chairs the American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), which is under investigation by the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, for ties to foreign terrorist organizations. Bazian is also allegedly close personal friends with the co-founder of CAIR.

According to congressional testimony, the Muslim Brotherhood is just one node in a broader foreign influence campaign to influence American academia and elections. Qatar, a major funder of the Muslim Brotherhood alongside Turkey, poured more money into American campuses than any other country, recent disclosures reveal.

An investigation by the House Education and the Workforce Committee uncovered deep ties between the Qatari government and American campuses. Former Northwestern President Michael Schill told lawmakers he was previously unaware of his university’s Qatari campus’s close relationship with Al-Jazeera and was “disturbed” by the relationship.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
