The University of Akron Zips football team announced on Tuesday that a raffle for season-ticket holders would be held for “Offensive Coordinator of the Game,” allowing the winner to work with the head coach to create the script for the first drive against Robert Morris University on September 12. The promotion is a first of its kind for college football, especially at the Division I level.

“I’m looking forward to collaborating with the season ticket holder who wins this contest,” head coach Joe Moorhead said in the statement. “This will give our fans a behind-the-scenes experience that has never been done before anywhere, so I’m excited to show them how to put together the opening script and see what they can do.”

“We’re always looking for new ways to bring our fans closer to the program,” Director of Athletics Dr. Andrew T. Goodrich added. “This is about giving one of our most loyal supporters a seat at the table, right alongside our coaching staff, on the biggest night of the season.”

Akron announced that the lucky winner will be a current season ticket holder, with all season ticket holders automatically entered into the drawing. Fans get one entry for each season ticket they hold. Season ticket holders can also receive additional entries by referring new season ticket holders for the upcoming 2026 season.

College football fans across the country are reacting as expected to the sweepstakes, hoping their favorite programs will let them draw up flea-flickers and Hail Marys to open up their season. Even for people who aren’t fans of Akron, the Zips’ first offensive drive against the Colonials next month will be one to watch.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
