- Collins touted his own success on Capitol Hill, including the Laken Riley Act.
- He touted his growing momentum in the race, thanks in part to his debate performance and campaigning from President Trump, saying “It’s game on.”
BUFORD, GEORGIA— Rep. Mike Collins held a rally at the Buford Community Center on Monday night, railing against Sen. Jon Ossoff’s failures and stressing the importance of Republican turnout, saying, “Knowing that this is a midterm election, you know what this is about. It’s about turnout.”
The Stark Contrast Between the DSA Leader and Collins
“This race is crystal clear,” Collins told the crowd. “You couldn’t find two people who are more polar opposite than between me and Jon Ossoff in any other race in this country.”
“He’s been there six years. He doesn’t care at all,” Collins said. “While I’ve been making your life safer, more affordable, and trying to leave this state better off, he [hasn’t] been representing us at all.”
Collins focused on Ossoff’s embrace of socialism and personal ambition.
“Look at his voting, almost 100% with [Senator] Bernie Sanders. The only thing he’s doing is using Georgia as a platform, a platform to raise money.”
Collins brought the point home, saying, “Jon Ossoff is the leader of the Democrat Socialists of America movement, part of the Democrat Party. They make up over 12% of the Democrats now.”
Collins then spoke about what he perceives to be Ossoff’s motivations for voting to continue last year’s government shutdown. “The first time he shut the government down was to give illegals healthcare. And we got veterans out there homeless, living under bridges that need our help.”
“The very people that fought for us and stood in the gap, put their life on the line so we could stay safe over here. And he wants to take the side of illegals? Then he shuts it down again for 48 days.”
Collins continued to describe the urgency of the shutdown situation, saying, “We’re trying to get that emergency money out for our farmers, and he shuts it down to try to defund border patrol and ICE.”
He also blasted Ossoff on children’s safety. “We had tens of thousands of children that were trafficked across that border.”
“We’ve got a U.S. senator that not only shut it down to defund ICE, but his campaign has been funded by Reid Hoffman. Reid Hoffman who was part of the Epstein elite group. Reid Hoffman had sent Epstein ice cream on his birthday and said it was for the girls.”
“So you got Jon Ossoff running ads about protecting children, being paid for by the Epstein guy, [and] trying to shut down the government.”
“That’s what we’ve got. We’ve got somebody that is running as far left as he can to raise as much money as he can to run for president in 2028.”
“This country is being attacked from the inside out, and that’s where they’re trying to attack us, to change the fabric of this country.”
Collins’ Accomplishments and Legislation
In contrast to representatives who “have been up there for decades” and haven’t accomplished anything, Collins highlighted his “two pieces of legislation in two years.” This includes the Laken Riley Act he co-authored. The act mandates the Department of Homeland Security to hold unlawful illegal aliens who have been arrested for certain crimes.
Collins spoke about the immense success of his legislation, describing the “over 20,000 illegal criminals [that have been removed] from our streets in just one year.”
He made it practical for the audience, describing the district attorneys who tell him, “Here’s the rest of the story. I’ve got people sitting in my jail right now, with ICE detainers on them. And if it wasn’t for that simple piece of legislation, they’d be back out on the street right now, committing more crime[s].”
The Increasing Momentum of This Race
Collins then transitioned to his increasing momentum in the race, saying, “We saw the momentum swing several weeks ago, right after that first debate, and we’ve seen it continue since then.”
In addition, he cited President Donald Trump’s midterm campaign blitz, telling reporters after the speech that he has “always had this effect, this electrifying effect with people, especially our base, they get energized from it.”
Collins also added that this race “is in the margin of error.”
“If you look at the polls, they got Jon Ossoff at 48% right now. He’s not above 50 [%]. That means over half of this state does not like his policies or what he’s been doing to represent the state of Georgia.”
He urged supporters to vote, telling the audience, “Go ahead and bank your vote now,” arguing that the more Republicans get out the vote, “The news media is gonna have to report it. That depresses the opposition.”
“I’m gonna win [this race] with your help,” he declared, enlisting supporters to encourage their friends to vote. “This is the two-minute warning in the football game.”
As he told reporters, “It’s game on now.”
