- Cruz noted the election is “a battle between crazy and sane.”
LOCUST GROVE, Ga.- Sen. Ted Cruz rallied alongside gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson on Friday, reminding supporters of former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ disastrous record and urging voters to choose Jackson’s common-sense leadership instead.
Cruz started off his address by issuing a timely warning with relevant examples of “leaders” in our nation who have strayed far from what this nation was founded on.
“When Comrade [Zohran] Mamdani says he wants to ‘seize the means of production,’ that is a word-for-word verbatim quote from the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx. When he says it, he means it.”
“When Abdul El-Sayed says he has [an] ‘obligation to follow Sharia law,’ he means it.”
Cruz continued on the importance and impact of election season: “These elections are a fundamental choice for our entire country.”
“You’ve got a clear distinction here [in this race],” he said, adding, “Rick Jackson is a hell of a leader.”
“Every disadvantage you can imagine, he began life with those disadvantages, except for two. He was blessed to be an American, and he came to know the love of Jesus.”
He also spoke on Jackson’s impressive record for foster children, saying, “You look at what Rick Jackson has done with foster kids in Georgia. More than 2,500 foster kids that he’s found homes for, more than 400 of them adopted by Christian parents.”
“Then, there’s Keisha Lance Bottoms. You look at her record as mayor of Atlanta, look at the record of failure.”
“On the issue of crime, the year 2020, Atlanta saw 157 homicides, that’s the highest murder rate since 1996. She defunded the corrections system.”
“She stood by and watched Atlanta burn.”
Cruz continued to make the case for the stark contrast between the candidates, saying, “Do you wanna see the train wreck of a dumpster fire of a collapsing volcano? That was Mayor Bottoms’ record as a mayor.”
“Or do you wanna actually have a governor who believes in common sense, who believes in low taxes, who believes in low regulations, and doesn’t think that the state of Georgia ends at the Atlanta city lines?”
“This is a battle between crazy and sane.”
The Texas senator then spoke of the divine hand that’s been on the United States.
“God has a plan for America. This nation, from the very first days, has enjoyed God’s providential blessings. And God isn’t done with America yet.”
Cruz closed by saying, “Freedom is worth fighting for. The Constitution is worth fighting for. Free speech is worth fighting for. Religious liberty is worth fighting for. The Second Amendment is worth fighting for. Georgia is worth fighting for. And America is worth fighting for.”
Jackson Speaks on Bottoms’ Disastrous Record, Makes Promises
Following Cruz’s address to the crowd of enthusiastic supporters, Jackson took the podium, saying, “I want to fight for you, and to make sure that when things get hard, you’re not left facing them alone. I’m ready for that responsibility, and I am committed to seeing it through.”
“Keisha Lance Bottoms made the opposite choice. She abandoned the city.”
“And for someone who knows what it feels like to be left behind, that’s not just a record I disagree with. That’s disqualifying.”
Jackson spoke about his intentions for public service, saying, “My focus is on putting others first,” again pointing to Bottoms’ disastrous record. “When I look at the neighborhoods she [Bottoms] let down in Atlanta, I saw mine. Bad mayors don’t make good governors.”
“By the spring of 2021, the police department was roughly 400 officers below its authorized strength.”
“While Atlanta was facing a pandemic, unrest, and [a] violent crime crisis, she decided to quit and give up. She later described that decision in terms of ‘what was best for me personally.’”
Jackson continued, saying, “Keisha Lance Bottoms puts herself first.”
He continued to enthuse the crowd by reiterating his campaign pledges, saying, “As governor, I will cut Georgia’s income tax in half during my first term.”
“We will lower property taxes and end hidden tax increases. We will cut state taxes on energy, so families and small businesses get relief on their utility bills.”
“We will create a statewide public corruption unit.”
He made the case for why voters can trust him, saying, “And while my opponent gave tax breaks and public funds to a data center, our plan ensures no large-scale data center can be approved unless the community supports it, it creates real local benefits, and it will never raise utility costs for nearby families.”
“Right now, 2/3 of our children cannot read proficiently in the third grade. Under our plan, every elementary school will focus on one clear outcome: every child reading at grade level by the end of the third grade, or they don’t get promoted.”
Jackson also said, “On day one, I will close Georgia’s coverage gap through intelligent [Medicaid] expansion.”
“As governor, I will back the blue 110%, and I will make public safety a daily responsibility.”
He also spoke about the importance of safety and protecting Georgia’s children, saying, “We’re going to end the sex trafficking of minors in Georgia.”
‘Elections Are About Turnout’
“At the end of the day, elections are about turnout,” Cruz told reporters following the rally. “If they [voters] stay home, we could end up with a very bad outcome, so it’s all about turnout.”
But, Cruz said, “At the end of the day, the people of Georgia are gonna make the right decision. Rick Jackson is gonna make a fantastic governor.”
