Outspoken members of the congressional Republican Study Committee called out the Democratic Party for nominating self-proclaimed capitalist candidates in key districts while allegedly undergoing a socialist rebranding.

The members’ comments come after nearly the entire House Democratic caucus voted against a resolution condemning socialism this fall. Additionally, the Democratic Socialists of America organization has reached a record-high membership, and longtime Democratic House members earlier this spring said the party’s congressional leadership has been hijacked by progressives.
A new poll first reported by the Daily Signal also found that 84% of American Democrats under 29 have a favorable view of socialism.
“When Democrats claim they’re fighting for affordability, they’re lying,” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., told the Daily Signal. “Their socialist policies will increase inflation up to 160%, cut paychecks by almost 30%, eliminate millions of jobs, and cost American families more than $350,000 over the next decade.”
“The contrast couldn’t be clearer: Republicans are lowering costs and putting more money into the pockets of hardworking families while socialists call a financial crisis their agenda,” Scalise continued.
Chairwoman of the RSC’s Article One Task Force, Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyo., added that the “calls to expand socialism in America have ignited a debate between commonsense versus crazy,” and that America “must never” elect the “false promise of ‘Democratic Socialism.’”
The Democratic Party did not respond to the Daily Signal’s request for comment.
The Cost
Socialists frequently champion the creation or expansion of taxpayer-funded programs, such as Medicare for All, as a solution to the affordability crisis that has long impacted young Americans.
However, in his statement to the Daily Signal, Republican Study Committee Chairman August Pfluger, R-Texas, used the White House’s newly released study on the economic impact of socialism to refute the claim that creating more taxpayer-funded programs will provide for American households.
“The White House’s new report just exposed the real price: $355,000 for every American household,” the chairman said. “That is a family’s retirement, a child’s future, or the home a couple has worked decades to afford all taken to fund an agenda that has failed everywhere it has been tried.”
Governments that took control of and monopolized assistance programs such as healthcare, education, and grocery stores, such as Cuba, Venezuela, and North Korea, are now considered by foreign policy experts to be “fragile states.” Others, such as the Soviet Union, no longer exist.
“One hundred ninety-two House Democrats had the chance to condemn it and voted no, which tells American families exactly whose side they are on. Republicans will not let the Left bankrupt working families to pay for their radical experiment,” the chairman added.
Pfluger’s colleague, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., echoed his claim, stating that the Democratic Socialists of America are deceiving their voters by championing these policies, as this is indicative of their communist ambitions.
“The plan has always been to lure the American people into this Communist dream of ‘free promises,’ but the fact is nothing in the DSA’s playbook is free, and they know it.”
Communist regimes, such as those in Venezuela and Cuba, misled their voters into believing that their revolution was in fact a socialist one, rather than a communist one.
“While they distract people with their promises of free things, they’re also advocating to abolish the Senate, defund law enforcement, and fully embrace Chinese-aligned Communist ideas. We cannot allow that,” Luna said.
