Donald Trump Jr. took the stage on Thursday at the Republican National Committee’s Midterm Convention, where he honored Charlie Kirk, drew a stark contrast between Republicans and Democrats, and urged conservatives to turn out for the upcoming midterm elections.

He began by remembering Kirk on the one-year anniversary of the conservative activist’s assassination.

“Charlie loved this country more than anything. He understood the moment that we are in. He understood that the future of Western civilization was on the line in 2024 and beyond,” Trump Jr. said.

He added that Republicans would continue the political movement Kirk helped build.

“We will not back down. We will not fold. We will honor Charlie by carrying his torch to save this nation that we all love so dearly.”

Trump Jr. went on to highlight Kirk’s focus on faith, family, free speech, and economic opportunity.

“He believed young men and women should be able to live a good life without being forced to kneel to the latest woke leftist ideology.”

The eldest child of the U.S. president contrasted that vision with his characterization of the political Left, saying, “The Left want obedience, they want total control of your life.”

Pointing to issues such as transgender policies, immigration, policing, and constitutional rights, Trump Jr. framed the political divide as a choice between two ideas.

“We have two competing visions battling for the soul of America: … common sense versus extremism,” he said. “Commonsense Americans believe in merit, not DEI mandates. They believe in equal opportunity, not racial preferences. We aren’t apologizing for wanting safe streets and supporting our police.”

Trump Jr. then shifted from policy differences to political violence, accusing some on the political Left of celebrating or making light of violent attacks.

“Leftist radicals actually celebrated the cold-blooded murder of a father shot in the back on a New York City street. They mocked the attempted assassination of my father. And [they cheered] the sick coward who slithered onto a roof to assassinate our great friend Charlie.”

Turning next to the rise of democratic socialism, Trump Jr. argued that its history has been marked by suffering, and he accused Democrats of concealing the consequences of their policies.

“The truth is, the story of socialism is a story of mass suffering. Democrats know they can’t tell the truth about their policies because the American people would reject them outright.”

Trump Jr. closed by urging Republican voters not to become complacent heading into November.

“None of us, not a single one of us, can afford to sleep through the midterms,” he said.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
