North Carolina drag queens are threatening legal action over an AI-generated ad targeting a Democrat congressional candidate whose business hosted an event that promoted a vulgar troupe of drag “nuns.”

The controversy began after the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) began airing an ad last week hitting Democrat Jamie Ager over the Beer City Sisters’ involvement in a 2019 festival at his family’s farm. The ad, approved by Republican candidate Jennifer Balkcom, features AI-generated footage of Ager dancing with various drag queens.
“Jamie Ager talks like you and me on TV, but he’s dancing with they/them,” the narrator of the ad says, while accusing the Democrat of hosting “a drag queen barn dance” for kids.
Ager and Balkcom are competing for a western North Carolina congressional seat held by Republican Rep. Chuck Edwards. The seat was once considered safely Republican, but became more competitive after Edwards announced he would not run for re-election following a sexual harassment probe.

The ad points to a “kid friendly” event hosted by Ager’s Hickory Nut Gap Farm on May 4, 2019, that was billed as a “Fantasy Festival” for all ages. One of the groups invited to the festival was the Asheville-based drag group Beer City Sisters. The group is associated with the infamous Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group of drag “nuns” that explicitly mocks Christianity.

Instagram.
The farm advertised the Beer City Sisters’ participation in the festival, but it remains unclear whether the event really included a drag queen barn dance. The Daily Wire reached out to Ager and Hickory Nut Gap Farm for clarification.
The NRCC ad accused Ager of promoting drag performers named “Sister Helen Bedd” and “Sister Domina Trix” and features AI footage of the Democrat dancing with them. The ad also attacked Ager for giving money to Blue Ridge Pride, an organization that has previously hosted events featuring drag queens like “Divine Holeburn” and “Will Pounder.”
Ager’s campaign recorded a $5,000 payment to Blue Ridge Pride in July 2026 in his October 2026 financial report. Blue Ridge Pride says Ager applied to sponsor its 2026 Pride Festival, but his “application was denied and the accompanying funds returned” because it does not accept money from political figures.
The ad elicited demands for its removal and threats of legal action from Asheville drag queens and LGBT activists. “Divine Holeburn” demanded on Facebook that Balkcom take down the “unethical AI SLOP fake news ad now. You do not have my permission/consent to use me in this way.”
In an email to The Daily Wire, “Divine Holeburn,” who also goes by “Divinity Holeburn,” said that “this barn dance event was not real, I was not there, nor were my friends who were pictured and named. I have issued a cease and desist, and asked that the ad be removed and discontinued.”
“There should be a law against manipulating REAL people’s likeness to your whim, whether it’s for personal gain or not. This is no different than slander or defamation. It is unethical. This is using technology to abuse other people,” he added.
In one Facebook post, “Divinity Holeburn” suggested having a “Jamie Ager win Party.”

Sister Domina Trix, one of the performers named in the ad, posted a cease-and-desist notice to the North Carolina Republican Party on Facebook, calling the spot “100% fake Ai generated” and reserving the right to pursue legal action.
Another drag queen, who goes by “Nova Jynah,” claimed his image was featured in the ad and said he had sent a cease-and-desist demand to the NRCC. He was not named in the ad.
“Jennifer Balkcom and the North Carolina Republican Party have used my likeness to promote an event that never f*king happened,” he said before urging people to vote for Ager. “It is extremely important that you get out and you cast your vote for Jamie Ager. Because you know what? F**k it. Let’s have a barn dance. Let’s go for it.”
In a Tuesday Facebook post, drag queen Will Pounder accused Balkcom of spreading “lies in a desperate attempt to secure votes because she knows she’s a failure” and urged people to “get out and vote like your lives and rights depend on it.”
The NRCC does not plan on pulling the ad, which uses language echoing a Trump campaign spot targeting Kamala Harris for her support of transgender policies during the 2024 presidential election that was determined to be one of the most effective ads of the cycle.
Social media posts from the Beer City Sisters in the months leading up to the 2019 festival show members using names like “Sister Wilma Holeburn” and “Sister Helen Bedd.”
The festival was first reported on by Breitbart earlier this month.
“Perhaps the most benevolent of all our guests, we are honored to have the Beer City Sisters, Abbey of All Souls joining us! These altruistic nuns are on a mission to promote and celebrate diversity, social awareness, universal joy, and eradicate the stigma of guilt,” Hickory Nut Gap posted on Facebook at the time. “The sisters serve our local community through the use of self expression and irreverent humor for advocacy, education, outreach and philanthropy! And they look fantastic doing so!”
Ager released a video statement on Monday denouncing the ad as “100% fake AI generated lies,” but he did not address his farm’s promotion of the Beer City Sisters at the 2019 festival.
“When you don’t have anything to run on in your campaign, I guess you have to resort to this kind of bull crap to try to convince people to vote for you,” he said. “I’m running a campaign based on the deep values we have here in western North Carolina, around politics, that’s good for people, that builds up our community, and it makes a better future for our kids.”
Blue Ridge Pride sent a letter to Balkcom demanding the ad’s removal, saying it “retained no funds from Jamie Ager” and that the spot “could be considered libel.”
“Jamie Ager is sending his leftwing army to attack his political opponents after being exposed for hosting events exposing young children to inappropriate performances from individuals like Sister Domina Trix and Sister Helen Bedd,” NRCC Spokesman Reilly Richardson told The Daily Wire. “The NRCC stands by the ad, and Ager owes North Carolina voters answers for why he’s trying to push sexualized performers onto kids.”
