This week features a Fox News town hall, a second Senate debate, the start of early in-person voting, and visits from both President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama.
Both the senate as well as gubernatorial race are Michigan’s biggest in decades, with polls suggesting they could be close.
Monday, Sean Hannity moderated a town hall with GOP Senate nominee Mike Rogers and GOP gubernatorial nominee John James during prime time to give them platforms to address current issues in Michigan.
Senate candidates Rogers and Abdul El-Sayed are scheduled to meet for their final debate Wednesday night in Detroit.
The first debate earlier this month was highly combative, with each of them firing personal attacks, interrupting, and engaging in clashes over Iran, tariffs, Israel and immigration, as both candidates sought to paint the other as dishonest and out of touch with Michigan voters.
With an open Senate seat, polling showing a dead heat, Republicans see Michigan as one of their best opportunities to flip Michigan’s currently blue senate seat in the final weeks of the campaign. Democrat Sen. Gary Peters steps down in January.
Both parties are deploying major national figures in the closing weeks. Obama is set to campaign in Detroit for Democratic candidates.
Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in Port Huron, Michigan Sunday, Oct. 25 backing Republican candidates.
This week in Michigan, online and mail voter registration is coming to a close. Early voting locations are opening across the state, and absentee ballots are already being returned.
