GOP Congresswomen Allege Ex-Colleague Helped Place Foreign Agents In Congress

Two Republican congresswomen have accused a former colleague of helping place agents of foreign governments in congressional offices, pointing to declassified files they say will be released in the coming weeks.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) first raised the allegations in a post on X Saturday, saying forthcoming declassified files would show foreign governments had successfully infiltrated congressional offices. 

“Some seriously disturbing declassified files will be coming out in the coming weeks about a Former Member Of Congress placing interns in other offices that happen to be agents of foreign governments,” Luna posted over the weekend. “Representative Kat Cammack has legislation that would require background checks on staff, and it should be brought to the floor immediately.” 

“Also, this is a massive security breach,” she added. 

Luna did not identify the former member of Congress. A spokesperson for Luna told The Daily Wire on Monday they could not provide a timetable for the release of the files. 

Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) backed up Luna, pressing Congress to pass her legislation to mandate background checks for rank-and-file staff members. 

“You read that right,” Cammack said on X. “There are NO background checks for Congressional staff. H.Res 500 would require background checks and full disclosure of dual citizenship and employment of foreign nations for staff. No surprise to anyone that we are being fought every step of the way.”  

In an interview on Monday, Cammack said she has brought the legislation to the attention of leadership and has faced a flurry of roadblocks. 

“I’ve heard some of the most insane excuses. I’ve heard things like, “Oh, we don’t have time. We have time. We certainly have time. And again, this could be put on the floor immediately.” 

“The American people… And my goal here is to drain the swamp. And it can start right here in our own backyard by running these background checks and letting the American people see who’s actually working on their behalf, or if they have ties to a foreign nation and they’re doing bidding for someone else,” she told LiveNOW FOX.

H.Res. 500 would require criminal background checks for House employees and mandate public disclosure of any foreign government payments, contracts, or citizenship. The legislation, which does not require the president’s signature, must pass the Rules Committee before heading to the full floor for a vote.
