Embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said she’s planning to vacate her Washington, D.C., home, claiming that a number of threats have made her feel like remaining there would be unsafe.

Omar made the declaration in her first televised interview since federal law enforcement agents executed a search warrant at that home, taking a number of electronic devices and documents related to the ongoing investigation into the congresswoman’s citizenship status.
“Obviously, I can’t continue to live there,” Omar told MS Now host Chris Hayes. “So we have to figure out where to move to because our address has been public, and with the death threats that I deal with, it’s no longer going to be feasible to be in that house and have my kids visiting off and on, having people track them.”

Omar, who has repeatedly insisted that she has done nothing wrong, ignored the fact that former President Joe Biden’s administration first opened an inquiry into her and claimed that President Donald Trump was behind all of it. She told Hayes that she believed the raid was designed to do two things — first, to terrify her and her family and second, to prove to Trump’s supporters that the administration was actually doing something to “get” her.
“You don’t show up to somebody’s house that early in the morning unless you’re trying to freak them out. And you know it obviously did freak all of us out,” Omar said, adding, “It sounded like an urgent evacuation sort-of situation. So it took us a while to figure out what was actually happening.”
Omar told Hayes that the agents had showed her the warrant and had also asked her to sign a document waiving her constitutional protections as a sitting member of Congress.
“That was obnoxious. I couldn’t understand why they would think that I would sign such a thing,” she said.
The Minnesota congresswoman said that she believed Trump had been promising to take action against her for so long that his supporters were starting to wonder if things would ever move forward.
“I think a lot of their Right-wing influencers, who seem to have direct connection to not just the president but his orbit, I think they were starting to lose faith that these were empty promises and they had to do something I believe to say, ‘Hey, look, we raided her house,’” Omar continued.
She laughed off the efforts to dig into her records for evidence of possible immigration fraud, saying, “It would be a huge undertaking to, I suppose, indict a 12-year-old for being so cleverly conspiring to defraud immigration services to come to the United States. I’m sure there are a lot of smart 12-year-olds, but that seems like a leap.”
The assertions about Omar are not about her actions at age 12, however. Rather, questions remain about Omar’s actual birth date — and by extension, her claim to receiving her citizenship as a minor through her father’s naturalization. In addition, a 2023 U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services search failed to find any evidence that her father had actually been naturalized when she says he was.
