Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) surprised the crowd at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Saturday night, taking the stage during Chris Brown and Usher’s joint “R&B Tour” to formally recognize both artists’ careers in the U.S. Congressional Record.

Crockett appeared on stage alongside Texas state Rep. Venton Jones and producer Roccstar, telling the crowd she “couldn’t miss” the hometown show. She said the honor was meant to permanently document both singers’ decades of influence on R&B music and entertainment.

Brown embraced Crockett after the announcement, thanking Dallas-area fans for their support. Crockett also worked in a swipe at Washington, telling the audience there are “a few scammers” in the capital compared with the “real one” standing on stage.

The gesture drew immediate pushback online, largely tied to Brown’s 2009 felony conviction for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna, for which he pleaded guilty and served probation. Critics circulated posts accusing Crockett of hypocrisy, noting she has previously criticized fellow Texas Democrat James Talarico’s standing with Black voters while publicly celebrating a musician with a domestic violence record. Crockett’s office had not responded to the criticism as of Sunday.

Brown and Usher launched the co-headlining “R&B Tour” — a name nodding to both the genre and the performers’ shared initials — in June, and the run has generated a series of viral clips beyond Saturday’s political cameo, including audience interactions during both artists’ sets.

Crockett, who represents Texas’s 30th Congressional District, lost the state’s Democratic Senate primary to Talarico in March by an eight-point margin.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
