Leftists Can’t Make Up Their Minds About Body Cams. It’s Hilarious.
It might be hard to believe, but it was only a year ago when girlboss enforcement officials in New Orleans oversaw one of the largest jailbreaks in modern history.

And then, having unleashed ten hardened criminals (mostly murderers) on the general public, the overwhelmingly female and black leadership of the New Orleans Police Department and the Sheriff’s Department let the entire world know that they did not care in the slightest about what had just transpired.
First, they took more than seven hours to sound the alarm, just to make sure the murderers had a sporting chance to get away.

Then, as you can see, one of these black female law enforcement officials showed up to a press conference looking like the Riddler — which, in hindsight, was a fitting choice because the escape turned out to be an inside job.
Credit where it’s due: In the New Orleans Police Department, they understand that if you’re going to transform a city into Gotham, there’s no point in half-measures.
Their timing could’ve been better, though. Just a few months earlier, we all witnessed the Karen Bass catastrophe, where she was on a “diplomatic trip” to Africa while entire neighborhoods in Los Angeles burned to the ground.
It was yet another debacle that had everyone talking about DEI. And then to make matters worse, people found a video where a high-ranking lesbian Los Angeles firefighter said she wasn’t worried about the fact that she’s too weak to carry a man out of a burning building, because the man deserved to die anyway for getting caught in a fire. So that didn’t help.
In any event, truth be told, these DEI meltdowns have become so common that they’re almost not worth talking about anymore. They’re like bombings during the Russian Revolution. At a certain point, they’re so constant that you simply can’t keep up with them.
But we’re going to make an exception because of a truly unique DEI dumpster fire that’s currently unfolding in the city of Seattle, which recently elected a socialist mayor — a 44-year-old woman named Katie Wilson (it’s her first job, by the way).
In case you missed it, early Sunday evening there was a shootout at a food festival near Seattle’s Space Needle. Three people died, including a 19-year-old involved in the shooting. At least four people, including a toddler, were injured. The shooting caused a panic, as you might imagine. Food vendors were running in every direction.
Watch:
Yes, at the time of the shooting, the chief of the Seattle Police Department was in Dallas, attending a conference for an organization called the “National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.” The black police chief was attending a DEI event that was organized exclusively for “black law enforcement executives.”
Meanwhile, for more than five hours, no one in Seattle knew how many shooters were on the loose. No one knew how many people had been killed. No emergency alerts or text messages went out. Instead, reporters were told they had to wait for the arrival of “dignitaries.”
To be clear here — because the names can get confusing, I admit — we need to distinguish the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives from the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement. They’re totally separate things. And those two organizations, in turn, have nothing to do with the National Association of Black Law Enforcement or the African American Police League, nor should any of these esteemed organizations be confused with the National Black Police Association or the group called Blacks in Law Enforcement of America.
And you definitely shouldn’t confuse any of these organizations with the National Association of White Law Enforcement because that particular group does not exist, and will never exist, because whites are the only race that’s not allowed, under any circumstances, to advance their own racial interests at secret meetings run by tax-exempt organizations where people with other skin colors aren’t even allowed in the building.
Just for fun, I decided to take a look at a recent meeting of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. I wanted to see what goes on there, since it’s evidently very important, if the police chief is flying 2,100 miles from Seattle to Dallas to attend.
Surely they must discuss cutting-edge strategies for how to keep the public safe — including members of the public who happen to be white. Surely this isn’t some Leftist political operation that’s completely corrupt. That couldn’t be the case. If I know anything about black-only organizations, it’s that they’re always competent and above board. It’s not like they’re corrupt and useless 100% of the time or anything.
Alas, upon viewing the footage from a recent gathering of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, which calls itself NOBLE for short, my assumptions were dashed.
It turns out that, indeed, these meetings are group therapy sessions for black communists. They discuss, among other topics, how to adjust their law enforcement tactics to appease homeless people and other degenerates. They debate the best ways to ensure that black areas have black healthcare workers, even though the topic has nothing to do with policing. And they give rousing speeches where they do their best MLK impersonations, and talk about the Three-Fifths Compromise and call for “pressuring” whites into compliance.
Watch:
These people are worthy of intense mockery, obviously, but they also belong in prison. None of these black-only organizations should exist as a general matter, for the same reason that whites-only organizations are not allowed to exist.
But it’s especially bad when we’re talking about black-only police organizations. These are people who are supposed to enforce the law impartially, without regard for skin color. It’s obviously a problem for these people to get together every few months and talk about how to fight white people.
The federal government should be involved in shutting down all of these groups, starting with the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, which is registered as a nonprofit. They’re clearly engaged in race-based political activity, as you saw in that footage. That’s not legal. Therefore, as quickly as possible, before they concoct some more anti-white policing strategies, they need to be raided by the Department of Justice.
I do need to emphasize, though, that as unseemly and disgusting as this conference was, this is not simply an optics issue for the Seattle Police Chief (whose name is Shon Barnes, spelled S-H-O-N, because this guy can’t even spell his own name right). It’s not simply a matter of bad timing that he happened to be in Dallas for this DEI conference while there was a mass shooting in his city.
The bigger issue is that, like so many other DEI hires, he misses work all the time. In fact, Shon Barnes’ primary residence is in Chicago, where his wife and family live full-time. He commutes to Seattle for work, where he lives in an apartment.
I’ll say that again: the DEI police chief of Seattle maintains his primary residence 2,000 miles away, in Chicago. He’s drawing a salary of more than $370,000 per year — more than three and a half times the average salary in Seattle, where he doesn’t live — and for all intents and purposes, he’s a remote worker.
The other day, when a reporter named Connor Nash tried to ask Shon Barnes, point-blank, how much time he spends in the city of Seattle, Barnes got in the reporter’s face and had to be separated from him by his chief of staff.
Watch:

It reminds me of the black activists online who will say, “How dare you say that black people are statistically more likely to commit violent crimes. Try saying that to my face, tough guy!” They prove the point, without realizing it.
In this case, the reporter is clearly questioning the competence of the chief of police, as well as his interest in doing his job. And in response, the police chief makes it abundantly clear that he’s both incompetent and unprofessional.
Watching this interaction, no reasonable person is going to think, “Wow, that’s the guy I want running the police force. He was asked how much time he spends in another city, and his response was to get in some reporter’s face and intimidate him, until he had to be separated.”
It’s now clear to everyone in Seattle, even the wine moms, that Shon Barnes has the temperament and work ethic of the local gas station hobo. He was clearly selected for the job solely because of his skin color, and if he isn’t fired tomorrow, he’s being protected solely because of his skin color.
That’s why, even when he’s given 24 hours to cool off and come up with a response to all of his critics, Shon Barnes somehow continues to make the situation even worse.
Here was his response during a press conference yesterday, when he was asked again how much time he spends in Chicago.
Watch:
INSANE: Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes was asked by @choeshow how often he travels to Chicago, where he lives, to see his wife and kids.

That’s quite a response to that particular question. He’s asked how often he leaves town to go to Chicago, and his response isn’t “never.” It’s not “rarely.” Instead, he makes it clear that he hates living in Seattle, and wishes he could spend all of his time in Chicago: “Certainly I don’t travel as much as I’d like to. … I don’t have that kind of money.”
So the money is the only limiting factor here. If he had more money, then he could make the trip more often. And then he complains about his rent in Seattle and the “affordability crisis”, even though, again, he’s paid more than $370,000 per year. A year’s rent on a high-end one-bedroom apartment in Seattle will run you about $36,000 per year, tops.
So where exactly is his money going, if he’s not spending a significant amount of his income on plane tickets to see his wife and children? That’s not a rhetorical question. This guy claims to be a public servant. He won’t provide a clear answer as to how often he leaves the city of Seattle. So the people of Seattle are entitled to an investigation at this point — one the federal government should be involved in, because this is starting to look like fraud.
Commentators in Seattle have come to the same conclusions. This is Gee Scott with KIRO.

This raises another very important aspect of this story, which is the surveillance question. When we discussed surveillance and Flock cameras last week, a lot of people were frustrated with what I had to say.
There’s no question that, in terms of popular opinion, most people online are vehemently anti-Flock and anti-surveillance in general. The opposition to Flock borders on fanatical.
No nuance is allowed — you’re told that, if you support Flock cameras, then you’re a tyrant. And to be fair, as we discussed, there are some good arguments against Flock cameras. In particular, arguments that relate to how communists might abuse the cameras, if they gain control of the government. Though again, those arguments don’t seem particularly persuasive, given that we’re under constant surveillance anyway from privately owned Ring cameras, from our own cellphones, from smart devices, from dashcams, etc.
But we can’t ignore the fact that there are real trade-offs when you side with the Leftists and take down surveillance cameras. The predictable result is that, even when there’s a mass shooting in one of the most visible and high-traffic locations in the country, the police have no idea who did it. They can’t check the cameras. They can’t track any suspects or vehicles that might be involved.
That’s exactly what Leftists want, of course. They want criminals to run rampant in our country — particularly foreign criminals.
In this particular case, there were some “dumb cameras” near the Space Needle itself. But again, the police are clearly having trouble using these cameras to track any suspects.
More than 48 hours after the shooting, they’re still looking for someone who might be involved. As a result, reporters in Seattle are starting to ask questions about the plan to eliminate cameras in the city, which has been pushed by the city’s new socialist mayor (again, the woman who’s never had a real job in her life). And in response, she gave an incoherent answer.

When she says she wants to protect the “safety of different communities,” she’s talking about foreign invaders who have no right to be in this country. When an illegal alien robs you, or shanks you, or crashes into you with his car while he’s drunk, this socialist mayor wants to prevent law enforcement from tracking him down and arresting him. She couldn’t be any more explicit about it.
And there’s a good chance she’s lying when she says there are plenty of cameras where the shooting happened. Take a look at this map:

The blue areas show where there’s camera coverage as part of the SPD Real Time Crime Center’s public CCTV network. But the cameras are only active where you see a camera icon. As you can see, there is very little SPD camera coverage in this city, by design.
The mayor shut down as many cameras as she could in the Stadium District, as soon as she took office. And while the Seattle Center (where the shooting happened, in the top left of this map) does have cameras run by the venue, the city cameras probably won’t be much help. The mayor sabotaged them.
In that light, the five-hour delay so that “dignitaries” could arrive — meaning the socialist congresswoman Jayapal, and others — makes a lot more sense. It starts to look intentional as to why the police chief was busy in Dallas, and why the police weren’t providing any updates. It’s not incompetence at all — it’s deliberate.
These people do not want to solve crimes, including mass shootings. They’re far more interested in PR opportunities. Watch as a local news reporter named Jeremy Harris pleaded with officers for information, only to be told that he had to wait for these “dignitaries”:

The socialist mayor has tried to minimize what happened here. She’s denied that her office blocked the police from holding a press conference about the shooting. In fact, she’s throwing the police under the bus, saying she was told it wouldn’t be “helpful” for her to be on-scene while they were looking for the suspects.
Unsurprisingly enough, the socialist mayor appears to be lying. This is turning into a massive scandal in Seattle — which is saying something, given how Leftists took over the city long ago. One local news station now says it has evidence from a source that the mayor is lying.
Watch:
A source at Seattle Police Department has come forward to Fox13’s Hana Kim that Mayor Katie Wilson LIED in her press conference today, about delaying the first public briefing 5hrs to allow Gov. Ferguson and Rep. Jayapal a photo opportunity.

So it’s pretty clear that the socialist mayor tried to hide information from the public about a mass shooting, in order to offer high-ranking Democrats a PR opportunity at a press conference. At a minimum, that’s what Katie Wilson did.
And here’s the key point: When there’s no footage for the police to look at, politicians have an excuse to stall like this. They can say they don’t have any information, since there’s no footage to review. They can say — as Katie Wilson did — that the police need to spend hours frantically searching for leads in a chaotic situation.
In an information vacuum, communists will lie to you, every single time. If they control access to information, then they take every opportunity — including a mass shooting — to conduct a propaganda campaign for their own benefit.
And yes, criminals are aware of the fact that the city operates like this. They know Seattle doesn’t have many cameras anymore. That emboldens them. It makes violent crime more likely. Obviously. There is no reason to pretend otherwise; it’s common sense, and we’re seeing it play out every day.
What’s important to understand about the Left’s opposition to surveillance is that it’s not remotely principled. To a comedic degree, they will flip-flop on this issue from day to day, depending entirely on the ideological needs of the moment. And there’s no better illustration of this phenomenon than the situation unfolding right now in Madison, Wisconsin, where, incidentally, Shon Barnes was the police chief until last year, before he started renting that apartment in Seattle — so this guy gets around, needless to say.
Madison is currently embroiled in hysterics over a wannabe-BLM martyr and lifelong felon named Corey Ruiz, who was trying to break into vehicles when the police attempted to apprehend him.
Watch:

Police say Ruiz was armed with a knife and injured officers with that knife before he was shot. The police tased him; it didn’t work, and they had to shoot him. So his baby mama’s not going to collect on the $50,000 he owed in child support, unfortunately — not that she was holding her breath.
The only available footage of the incident — or at least, the only footage that’s currently available — comes from cellphone recordings taken by people on the sidewalk. And it doesn’t show much, beyond the fact that Ruiz was clearly resisting as he was surrounded by officers. You can briefly see a knife in the footage, but it’s hard to see exactly what happened.
You might think that Leftists would be ecstatic about this turn of events. After all, there were apparently no surveillance cameras, and no body cameras, recording this particular street in Madison. And that’s a major victory for the “no surveillance movement,” at least on the surface.
But these people don’t actually care about surveillance, or privacy — which is why, not too long ago, they were demanding that every police officer must wear bodycams at all times. As you might remember, they were convinced that, if bodycams were mandated, then they’d provide nonstop footage of white supremacist police officers mowing down black people for sport.
That’s genuinely what they believed — they were under the impression that cops were killing tens of thousands of black people every year. And then once bodycams were mandated, they ended up providing a lot of footage like this:

They revealed that police officers, by and large, have an extremely difficult job because criminals — disproportionately black criminals — are quick to resort to violence. For that reason, Leftists in various jurisdictions — including Madison, Wisconsin, where Corey Ruiz was killed — decided to get rid of bodycams, on the basis that bodycams are actually, it turns out, racist. They were too helpful to the police and prosecutors. They put too many black criminals in prison.
But now that Corey Ruiz was killed, and they’re convinced he was shot by the police in cold blood, suddenly these people have seen the light. Now all the black activists and Leftist white women are determined to bring bodycams back.
So if you’re following along at home: first the activists demanded bodycams. Then, after their demands were met, they decided that actually they don’t want bodycams. And now they’ve determined that actually they do want bodycams.
This may seem like random, desperate, incoherent flip-flopping back and forth. It may seem like left-wing activists are the political equivalent of a fish flopping mindlessly around in the sand, after getting washed up on the beach by the tide. And, from a pure IQ perspective, they are indeed almost exactly like that hypothetical fish.
But the flopping isn’t random. Their position on bodycams, like their position on literally everything else, depends entirely on whatever is most politically expedient in the present moment. Whatever they said in the previous moment is irrelevant. Just as whatever they say in the next moment will make their position in the present moment irrelevant. They live moment to moment, no past and no future, like Guy Pearce in Memento.
Watch:
Let me go back and quote from the transcript, because it’s very important for us to think deeply about the insightful answer we just heard there:
Before we got this far, the community did not want us to have cameras just yet, without some things in place. So, the community advocated against implementation of body-worn cameras for some years. And then, more importantly, more recently, the community took a different turn and supports body-worn cameras.
She won’t tell you what “things” need to be “in place” before bodycams come back, or why it may take 10 years to implement these “things.” Nor will she explain why the community “took a different turn” on the issue.
All she knows is that the “more recent” position taken by the “community” is “more important.” As we’ve established, in the minds of left-wing activists, the most important thing — the only important thing — is whatever position they’re taking right now, at this precise moment in time. Nothing else matters at all.
But we all know what’s actually going on here. In Madison, as recently as 2021, left-wing activists were coming up with all kinds of deranged reasons to ban bodycams. It was clear that they were primarily concerned with the fact that bodycams would be used to imprison black people who committed crimes in front of police officers. And city politicians went along with it.
Here’s a quote from an article from the Cap Times from November of 2021:
Madison’s Public Safety Review Committee recommended that the City Council not pursue using the technology either in a pilot program nor a full deployment. … [The co-chair of the committee] acknowledged the concerns that body cameras can bring, including the high financial burden of the technology and intrusions of privacy. Critics of body-worn cameras additionally point to scientific literature that suggest they have little impact on police or civilian behavior and that they expand criminalization of marginalized populations.
This was the prevailing view in Madison, as recently as a couple of months ago. They were hiding behind fake concerns about the cost of the bodycams, as well as fake scientific literature about how the cameras don’t do anything.
But really, the key point is at the end there: “they expand criminalization of marginalized populations.” In other words, they help catch black criminals. Therefore, they’re intolerable. It’s the same argument they use against every other type of camera.
Of course, concerns about protecting illegal aliens also factored into the hesitation, especially as Donald Trump rose to power. This is from the outlet “Government Technology” from 2020:
Alderman Shiva Bidar has expressed concerns that body camera video could be used by federal immigration officials to detain undocumented immigrants, or harm police relations with Latinos.
Another alderman, Marsha Rummel, put it this way in the same piece:
The question will remain if we adopt cameras how will we make police more accountable and how policing of community members historically subject to overpolicing (not just excessive force) will change. … If we go forward with body cameras, I would want a policy that addresses when they are worn, who is required to wear them, and how the video can be used.
In other words, Leftists in Madison dragged their feet over body cameras because they wanted carve-outs for their preferred demographic groups. They were okay if bodycams were used to prosecute white people, or January 6 defendants, or something like that.
But they wanted assurances that the police would never use the footage to deport illegal aliens or arrest black people. They wanted to find a way to hide the footage from the feds, as well.
Now that Corey Ruiz is dead, and the BLM riot machine is kicking into gear, they’re feeling a lot of buyer’s remorse about that decision. They’re convinced that, if they only had bodycams, they’d be able to sell this fraudulent Corey Ruiz narrative nationwide.
They’d be able to usher in another summer of rampant looting, murder, and property destruction in the name of “racial equity.” Even though, of course, all the bodycam footage would actually show is Corey Ruiz maniacally flailing around with a knife in his hand.
Bodycam footage has never vindicated the BLM narrative on a single case — and I really do mean never — and that streak wouldn’t be broken here.
The hysteria — the race mania — is in full swing in Madison. They believe that bodycams would validate their delusions about what happened, so now they’re pro-bodycam. And make no mistake about it: The moment they realize they’re wrong about this, and the bodycams quash a few of their narratives before they get off the ground, they’ll do yet another 180 on bodycams.
These people have no interest in governing. They have no interests at all, beyond their own power. That’s why DEI police chiefs are spending their time in Dallas and Chicago, instead of the city where they’re supposed to work.
And it’s why they’re now suddenly in favor of bodycams, after telling us that they’re racist for years. Their flagrant hypocrisy is a function of their depravity. It’s yet another sign that the threat we’re facing, as a country, is actually far more severe than it was in 2020, as bad as 2020 was.
Communists are mobilizing once again, but this time, they have institutional support in the government. That’s true in New York, where the city is about to open state-run grocery stores that will inevitably lead to food shortages.
It’s true in Seattle, which doesn’t even have a police chief anymore. It’s true in Madison, where they support surveillance — but only when it benefits them. It’s also true in Wisconsin more generally.
They’re about to elect Francesca Hong, a socialist who wants to abolish the Senate and the police as their next governor. This is a woman who was just sued by Capital One for $30,000 in unpaid bills. Once she’s in office, you can bet that she’ll use the power of the government for the benefit of every other deadbeat in the state.
This is a new, and much more unified threat than the Right is used to. That’s not doomerism, and our fate isn’t inevitable. But the first step to defeating these people is to recognize what they’re doing, and how committed they are.
The next step — the one this administration needs to take immediately — is to deport or imprison as many of these communists as possible.
For once, let’s make these people suffer some consequences for their crimes. If we make the mistake of letting them seize any more power than they already have, by that point, it will be far too late.
