Guelli and Scott “Stew” Stewart became engaged without seeing each other, as the Netflix show’s premise requires. But their first meeting ended with Jax walking out.
Jax said during a confessional interview that Stew looked more like Mitt Romney than a long-lost Kennedy, a nickname he said the other male cast members had given him.
“I don’t want to be mean,” she whispered when a producer asked her to explain her feelings, as TODAY originally reported.
Jax has since said she had doubts about the relationship before the face-to-face meeting.
“So it looks very black and white when you watch it, but in reality, I was already feeling that way,” Jax said of their ill-fated first meeting, per People. “So I was already on edge that this could not possibly be right.”
“When we did actually meet, it was incredibly intense and overwhelming for me,” she went on. “And I think when I sat down, I kind of realized, you know, there’s no chemistry or connection here. And I had to go.”
“I honestly am unapologetically myself,” Jax told Entertainment Weekly in a separate interview. “I didn’t mean for it to be… It’s actually, not like, not a compliment. Mitt Romney’s wicked hot; I think he’s so handsome. But it was a little spicy, and I could have delivered it differently, but so is he. He’s cocky. He’s sitting there saying, ‘What do you think?’ That’s what I think. I stand by what I said.”
Stew said the breakup surprised him.
“I didn’t see it coming. Definitely caught me off guard,” he told the outlet. “I mean, that was such an emotional day. I proposed to this person, sight unseen. The doors open, and you see them cross the red carpet. You walk up and greet them, and it’s just so overwhelming.”
Despite the negative outcome, he said he doesn’t hold it against Jax.
“I also think on the flip side, Jax deserves some degree of credit, some grace,” Stew said. “She probably would have approached that differently had she had a different chance, had the emotions going through her mind not been going through her mind.”
New episodes of “Love Is Blind” Season 11 air Wednesdays on Netflix, with the finale scheduled for November 4.
