Olivia Reingold at The Free Press first reported on Thursday that Spotify playlists under an account with Duwaji’s name featured “anti-Israel anthems” and were created just after the Oct. 7 terrorist attack.
One playlist was called “hungry but sexy for Palestine,” and contained songs such as “Amrikkka” and “Intifada.” It also includes one called “Ana Bakrah Israel,” which according to The Free Press translates to “I Hate Israel.”
Another song on the playlist was “Rajaoui Filistini,” which has a line, when translated to English, asking for God’s protection “from the darkness of betrayal/oppression, and from the Jews who are greedy for you,” Free Press reported.
The second playlist was called “p2p Palestine 2 Pree—DC protest trip,” and was created for the Jan. 13, 2024, March on Washington for Gaza, according to the report.
This playlist contained a song called “FREE PALESTINE,” that contained a line, “Israel gon’ die b—-.”
Mamdani’s office did not respond to requests for comment by The Daily Signal by publication time. The Free Press reported that Mamdani’s office declined comment for its story, and that the Spotify account was made private the day following its comment request.
These weren’t the only controversial playlists on the account. Another playlist was titled “ACAB,” a derogatory acronym aimed at police officers. The New York Police Department is the largest police force in the United States.
Mamdani’s wife has previously made headlines for her social media presence and attitude toward Israel and Jews.
In March it was reported that Duwaji created art for an essay by a woman who likened Jews to “vampires,” “demons,” and “ghouls” and called the Oct. 7 attack “spectacular.” A spokeswoman for Mamdani’s office told The Free Beacon, “As is common for freelance illustrators, the First Lady was commissioned to illustrate an excerpt of Abulhawa’s book by an outside publisher.” The spokeswoman added, “She has never engaged with or met Susan Abulhawa, nor had she seen the tweets in question.”
Mamdani also said in response that he found the author’s language “patently unacceptable” and “reprehensible.”
“My wife is the love of my life, and she’s also a private person who has held no formal position on my campaign or in my City Hall,” Mamdani said at a news conference in March, in reference to reports that Duwaji had “liked” social media posts appearing to praise or defend the Oct. 7 terror attacks.
Duwaji also faced scrutiny for a series of past social media posts that appeared to glorify terrorism. The Daily Signal reported at the time that she “celebrated the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, designated by the State Department as a terrorist group. She also cheered on the First Intifada against Israel.”
In addition, in 2015 she reposted a Tumblr account that supported attacking U.S. troops.
“*taps mic* American soldiers fighting in imperialist wars are not brave nor are they fighting for anyone’s freedom,” the post stated. “They are mercilessly slaughtering 3rd world civilians and fighting to maintain American hegemony. That is all, thank you! *drops mic*”
Mamdani did not respond to requests for comment by The Free Press or The Daily Signal. When asked about the controversial social media posts, he said in March that Duwaji is a “private person” with no role in City Hall.
