Republican lawmakers are threatening to block President Donald Trump’s nominees and derail his legislative agenda over restrictions on satellite services used by Ukraine’s military, according to The New York Times.

Senators from both parties have told senior White House officials they will hold up pending nominations until the administration restores critical satellite communications capabilities used by Ukraine’s military, the Times reported, citing three people familiar with the discussions. The standoff is expected to play out during the congressional session after the November midterm elections, when Republicans hope to confirm dozens of nominees before the current Congress ends.

The dispute follows disruptions to Starlink and its military-grade counterpart, Starshield, satellite networks operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX that Ukrainian forces rely on for battlefield communications and drone operations. Ukrainian officials reported restrictions that hampered both offensive missions and efforts to intercept Russian drones.

Trump reportedly asked Musk to restore Ukraine’s full access. But Ukrainian officials said restrictions remained in place, leaving lawmakers demanding answers.

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), a former FBI agent who worked on Russian counterintelligence in Kyiv, said he doubted the disruptions were accidental. He has threatened investigations, accountability for officials responsible, and budget cuts to the agencies involved.

“I’m personally not buying the coincidence argument,” Fitzpatrick said, according to the Times, citing Trump’s increasingly hostile posture toward Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Fitzpatrick said he had recently spoken with Zelensky and was concerned about delays in ballistic missile interceptors, interruptions to early-warning intelligence, and satellite restrictions.

A U.S. official who traveled to Kyiv told the Times that warnings of Russian attacks had arrived too late for American diplomatic personnel to reach hardened bunkers, forcing them to shelter in hallways.

The congressional backlash extends beyond the satellite dispute. Trump has also moved to waive sanctions on Russia and purchase Russian diesel fuel as he seeks to lower energy prices, frustrating Republicans who supported legislation imposing new sanctions on Moscow.

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has urged Trump to accept a Ukrainian proposal to suspend attacks on Russian petroleum infrastructure in exchange for American assistance identifying Russian missile and drone launch sites.

“President Trump can lower prices at the pump today by simply agreeing to this deal!” Wicker wrote on X. “MR. PRESIDENT, PLEASE TAKE THIS WIN!”

A bipartisan group of nearly two dozen House members has separately urged Trump to press Musk to allow Ukraine to use Starlink to target Russian missile launchers inside Russia. Seven Republicans signed the letter, including Fitzpatrick, Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) and Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC).

“Unfortunately, Putin presently has no intention of stopping the bloodshed,” the lawmakers wrote, arguing that expanded satellite access could save lives and give Russian President Vladimir Putin greater incentives to negotiate.

Bacon, who is retiring, has also threatened to oppose the administration’s priorities, including its proposed $1.5 trillion defense budget, over Trump’s handling of the war.

“The agenda is dead,” Bacon said, according to Politico. “Many of us won’t fund these things knowing he is propping up a dictator’s invasion and throwing an ally under the bus.”

The White House has defended Trump’s approach as an effort to end a war that has killed thousands and dragged on for more than four years. Trump has blamed Zelensky for complicating negotiations and said his goal is to stop the fighting.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
