Ted Cruz Honors Charlie Kirk, Sounds Alarm on Political Extremism

Speaking at the Republican National Committee’s Midterm Convention on Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, marked the one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s assassination and the approaching anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, using both tragedies to warn about the growing threat from political and religious extremism.

“The hate that killed Charlie Kirk, that knocked down the twin towers, that led to the assassination attempts on President [Donald] Trump … it just keeps getting worse and worse.”

Cruz went on to identify what he called a “red-green alliance,” which he described as communists and Islamists “coming together and sweeping over the Democratic Party.”

The Texas senator argued that the two ideologies, despite their differences, have become united by what he described as a shared set of enemies.

“They hate Christians, they hate Jews, they hate capitalism, they hate the Constitution, and they hate America,” he said.

Cruz then turned to his own family’s experience with communism in Cuba.

“My family has bled and been imprisoned and tortured by communists in Cuba—that’s what communists do.”

The senator then drew a parallel between what his family experienced under communism and what he described as oppression and violence carried out under Islamism.

“Islamism, likewise, produces murder and oppression—from the forced wearing of hijabs to the stoning of rape victims, from the systematic murder of homosexuals to the honor killings and barbarism of October 7th and 9/11.”

“Hear me now: Sharia law has no place in America,” he added.

Cruz argued that Sharia law is “fundamentally inconsistent” with the U.S. Constitution before turning his attention to Democrats and their associations with controversial political figures. The senator specifically targeted Michigan Democrat Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed over his relationship with political streamer Hasan Piker, who said in 2019 that America “deserved 9/11.”

“Why does El-Sayed refuse to disavow Hasan Piker? Why does Chuck Schumer refuse to disavow El Sayed? Their threats are not simply empty words.”

Cruz closed by sharing a question his father, who fled Cuba for the United States, has repeatedly asked him about American freedom.

“Over and over again my father asked me, ‘If we lose our freedom here [in America] …where will we go?'” 

Cruz answered the question with a call to defend the country.

“We go nowhere. We will unite. We will stand up. We will defend our nation. And we will defend our freedom,” he said.
