The site smelled of spilled jet fuel and rubber — and shockingly, there was nothing on site even resembling a plane, underscoring the devastation of the crash, The Daily Wire’s Jordan Schroeder found.
The Learjet 60 slammed into the ground in a nosedive near a mobile home park in South Florida on Sunday, with all nine people onboard killed in the crash. More details are still being learned about the crash, though experts believe weather could have played a role in the jet’s rapid descent and crash.
“The crash site reeked of what smelled like a mix of spilled jet fuel and burned plastics, wiring, rubber, and upholstery,” Schroeder reported. “But what shocked me most was what I couldn’t see: a plane. From where I stood, there was just a crater in the earth and concrete shoved up around it.”
“Looking at that hole, it was hard to wrap my head around the fact that a jet carrying nine people had been there,” she said. “It appeared to have completely disintegrated on impact.”

Dozens of people were participating in the recovery efforts and investigation. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators could be seen arriving in black SUVs and getting out near the scene, where they face the task of piecing together what happened.

“The devastation reaches beyond the crater,” Schroeder said. “Families with children have been forced out of their homes, and businesses have had to shut their doors in a neighborhood where people were already struggling.”

Residents of the nearby Green Acres Family Community mobile home park were forced to evacuate following the crash, with approximately 600 people expected to be relocated. Authorities arranged for shelters and transportation as the area was secured for the investigation. Some residents were later allowed to return home, while others remained displaced as officials continued their work at the crash site.

“Obviously, this was a cataclysmic plane crash,” Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis said Sunday. “It looked like a missile going down … the debris was significant, and it went over a pretty significant distance.”
Remarkably, there have so far been no reports of injuries to anyone on the ground.
Details are still being learned about the victims on the jet, though a woman’s family confirmed Monday morning that Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20, was co-piloting the aircraft.
