When Skydance’s David Ellison took the reins at Paramount and installed Bari Weiss as CBS News’s editor-in-chief, most Americans assumed the network would finally stop kowtowing to criminals the way the rest of the mainstream media has, drowning us in nonstop sob stories about illegal aliens being deported, each one painted with the same tender brushstroke: a simple father, stripped from his family and shipped to a third country.

We were wrong.

Sunday evening’s “60 Minutes,” illustrated just that, painting over the nightmarish hues of reality, crime, and law and layering on the pastels of a poor father – a Texas father – who had simply resided in America for 25 years as a noncitizen and was deported against his will.

The visibly liberal correspondent, her bleeding heart bigger than the Lone Star State itself, narrated that Moussa Diawara was finishing his last Uber drop-off when ICE met him at the door of the home he shares with his wife and two children. After roughly three weeks in detention, he was put on a flight to Ghana because a U.S. immigration judge had ruled he could be deported anywhere but his home country of Mali, where he would likely face persecution. He now resides in an undisclosed African nation, where he cries for the cameras of “60 Minutes.”

Aww. I’m so upset.

But the painters of this fairy-tale-turned-grim-reality tucked the inconvenient colors beneath the crafted tears. Diawara had a final order of removal from a judge in 2012, who noted that the “Texas Father” lied and said he was homosexual to dodge deportations. They brushed over the fact that he has been here 25 years, through four presidents, and never bothered to become a citizen. For his family or his fellow gays.

Instead, he just drove Ubers, a job that demands a valid driver’s license, a Social Security number, proof of registration and insurance, and an I-9. And by DHS’s account, he held those documents only because, after overstaying a tourist visa, he spun a tale of poofy persecution to win protection and a work permit. The paint chips when you stare at it.

Maybe it’s because my mother taught me to follow the rules. Maybe it’s because I was reprimanded, without fail, when I didn’t. Maybe it’s because I’m a fourth-generation American whose forebears became citizens, assimilated with love and admiration for the home that welcomed them, learned near-perfect English (and didn’t speak much until they did), and followed every law along the Yankee Ferry way. Maybe I’m just a cold-hearted MAGA bigot. Whatever the reason, I lack sympathy for these rulebreakers. I lack sympathy for those who wait too long to do the right thing, for none of us knows what a day may bring. And I lack sympathy for the more than 25,000 people deported to third countries who could have taken the government’s $2,600 stipend and a free flight home, but failed to do so.

After years of non-victims crying victimhood, the non-oppressed claiming oppression, and the privileged pretending otherwise, I simply lack sympathy for the illegals crying victimwolf.

The United States is not a country every soul on earth has a right to inhabit. It is a bastion of greatness, the bastion of greatness, but it isn’t owed to me, you, or the next guy. It’s a privilege to be earned, and I am blessed beyond belief that my ancestors earned it for us.

They realized the American dream. They worked hard, followed the rules, and turned an illusion into their reality. That doesn’t mean life for them, or for any American, was picturesque, or a perfectly painted portrait. It means they dedicated their lives to earning their freedoms. With those freedoms, they built a roof overhead, a rowdy household within, and lived in a quiet neighborhood off a busy street, where Monday through Friday the buses carried us to school in a good district to learn right from wrong, and why that distinction matters in America.

But that dreamy image cracks when a nightmare creeps in. Shadowy figures who never had the right to be here slip into the landscape and exploit the freedoms the rest of us worked for and wish to keep sacred. The illusion rips when those shadowy figures attempt to rape and then crush the skulls of young girls for 18 minutes straight, like in the case of 21-year-old Laken Riley. It gets tainted when unwelcome forces kidnap and rape an 11-year-old Amish Dreamer in New Jersey, or minors in Georgia.

Will “60 Minutes” ever feature the families whose dreams were darkened by the very people the network paints as victims, people who never earned the privilege of being here in the first place?

Doubtful. But that’s the kind of story I care about. I want to hear about dangerous men who lurk on our bike paths, in the halls of our schools, and in alleyways on our walk home from work, being deported. I want to give a platform to the family of a daughter killed by a man Biden let waltz in. I want government lawyers on the Sunday special answering for that, not fielding questions about why we’re sending a visitor back home.

Because I do have sympathy, just not for criminals.

Deportations and self-deportations are nearly a cumulative 3 million, just two years into this administration. Twenty-five million illegals were allowed in under Joe Biden, and to keep young women especially safe, there’s simply more work to be done.

And yes, Washington Post, naturalization approvals are down roughly 72% from last year, because before we welcome new dreamers, we must make sure the nightmare-striking wolves are out. You’re not tugging my heartstrings by pointing that out. But your added note that these “would-be citizens are in limbo and unable to vote” in the midterms did spark my confusion. How odd! I thought noncitizens never voted?

The atheist liberals of 2026 will scream and yell that Christian Conservatives must muster sympathy for the illegal who cries victimwolf, as they paint pretty pictures of their American lives being torn from them. But I see past their rose-tinted palette, and I see a darker picture. A quieter cry, from the mother who lost her baby to a devil who defied the law and devoured her dream. It is a cry no media outlet has the gall, or the gumption, to amplify. Instead, they give voice to their idea of a victim.

We can love our neighbor without pretending that love requires us to surrender sovereignty over the border, ignore final removal orders, or subordinate the safety of American daughters to the narrative preferences of “60 Minutes.”

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
