“The View” host Sunny Hostin admitted during a recent panel discussion that she’d been trying to throw former Vice President Kamala Harris a lifeline when she unintentionally pulled the pin on a political grenade.

The liberal hosts of ABC’s “The View” were talking with producer Brian Teta during a special broadcast of their “Behind the Table” podcast, and he brought up a few of their more embarrassing exchanges. In one such exchange — during the 2024 presidential campaign — Hostin had asked Harris, “Would you have done something differently than President Biden during the past four years?”

Harris, after an uncomfortable pause, replied, “There is not a thing that comes to mind.”

“Thanks for showing that, Brian … You know. It became so infamous. People wrote books around that question,” Hostin laughed, thanking Teta for bringing up such an uncomfortable memory.

Teta asked what she thought about the way that scene had played out, now that she had the benefit of hindsight.

“I thought it was a gift. I thought — I was looking at [Biden’s] numbers, his approval ratings were so low, and I thought she’s got to distance herself from him. Right? And so, what better venue in front of three million people that are her people than to ask her —” Hostin explained.

“If you have an answer. It’s a good audience,” Sara Haines interjected.

“Yeah, you know, that then to ask her what would you do differently?” Hostin continued. “And I actually thought the answer was going to be: ‘You know, we had a lot of wins in this administration. I was there for those wins. But I, as a woman of color, as a child of immigrants, as — I have a different lived experience and I intend to bring that lived experience with me into the White House. I will do this. I will do that. I will do this. I will do that. I will do that.’ That was what I was expecting. I was not expecting ‘not a single thing comes to mind.'”

Teta noted that Harris later wrote about the exchange, saying that she’d had no idea at the time that Hostin had effectively “pulled the pin on a hand grenade.” Hostin, however, said she knew immediately that Harris’ answer would be a major problem for the candidate.

“We all did,” cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed.

Cohost Ana Navarro said Harris’ staff came out to the table during the commercial break and warned Harris that she needed to do some serious damage control, and fast.

“They knew immediately that she needed to come back and do damage control. Which she tried, but it never — she didn’t control the damage,” Navarro said.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
