Israel’s Channel 14 dropped the bombshell on Monday, with correspondent Libby Alon reporting that Capt. Ibrahim R. Mossallam was quietly returned to the cockpit after being pulled from flying in 2023. Alon said she asked United why he was allowed to continue flying, but as of her report, the airline had not responded.

The Daily Wire also reached out to United for comment.

On October 7, 2023, as Hamas and its supporters committed their massacre in Israel, Mossallam called the massacre “resistance” by people who had endured “occupation, oppression, humiliation, apartheid, and straight up murder.” He insisted the bloodbath was “not an unprovoked attack,” blamed the “Zionist regime,” and told critics to brush up on their “media literacy.”

“Back in 2023, the post caused a major uproar,” Alon reported. “Pressure from Jewish organizations and communities across the United States led United to place him on six months of sick leave while it reviewed the case. Six months later, United reinstated him as an active pilot, and he is still flying today. He has, of course, continued to post against Israel. Here is one from two months ago: ‘Their plan [Israel’s] was never to stop the theft of land. Were it not for the Palestinian resistance and the awakening of the world, all of Palestine would already have been taken.’”

The renewed scrutiny follows the September 30 attempted terrorist hijacking of Flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv, in which the Omani co-pilot allegedly stabbed the captain and tried to crash the plane with 174 people on board. Israeli passengers and crew, after the pilot managed to open the door, got into the cockpit and subdued the co-pilot, and off-duty pilots traveling aboard landed the jet safely in Saudi Arabia.

Before the attempted hijacking, the Omani terrorist pilot had published antisemitic posts on social media, along with posts advocating for violence against women.

The Flydubai attack has raised concerns, especially in Israel, about how pilots are being screened before they’re allowed to fly into the country. Monday’s report on the United pilot has now added to those concerns.

United has never publicly explained what its review found or why it cleared him, according to aviation blog View from the Wing.

Mossallam’s post simmered largely unnoticed until watchdog group StopAntisemitism blasted it to its followers in November 2023, demanding to know how Jewish flyers could feel safe with him at the controls.

The backlash came fast. Furious users flooded United’s Instagram and LinkedIn pages, and former White House Mideast envoy Jason Greenblatt publicly urged the airline to fire him. Ex-Trump Deputy National Security Adviser Victoria Coates told NewsNation she was stunned that nobody was keeping tabs on pilots’ social media.

On November 20, 2023, United confirmed it had yanked Mossallam from service, with pay, while it investigated.

How long he stayed grounded is murky. Channel 14 put it at six months, but a June 2025 court order in an unrelated lawsuit filed against United recounts Mossallam returning to flying after about a month, according to View from the Wing,

While United has reportedly allowed Mossallam to return to flying, Air Canada canned first officer Mostafa Ezzo after he posted photos with signs reading “Israel, Hitler is proud of you” and a caption that read “burn in hell.” Air Canada said it does not tolerate any form of violent attacks.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
