Why The Hijacking Was Only A Warning

An attempted terrorist hijacking was foiled at the last minute by the Indian pilot, a group of heroic Israeli passengers, and a backup crew. Everybody aboard should be dead right now. 

But there’s another question: Why did this happen? Why did it happen just days after an attempted Iranian-backed attack on an air force base in Great Britain? What is going on? What do the enemies of the West actually want?

There are two ways to respond to Islamic terrorism: Rush the cockpit and level out the plane, or release the terrorists on bail. 

Both of those things have happened in the last couple of days, one on a plane and one in Great Britain, and both have effects that will be extraordinary. The question is, what should Americans learn from the attempted terror of the past few days?

There are two models. The first is Israel’s response after the October 7 Hamas massacre, which is to go in, kill every terrorist you can find, and secure your future. 

The second is Spain’s response. In March 2004, al-Qaeda bombed commuter trains in Madrid and killed roughly 190 people. Then the Socialist Party won in Spain, and they immediately withdrew from helping the United States in the Iraq War.

Those are the two models in response to terrorism. One: You stand tall; you grow a spine; you do what’s necessary to preserve yourself and your civilization.

Two: You surrender in the face of terrorism. 

The latter is what the radical Islamic world is seeking. 

That’s exactly what Israelis did not give them aboard the Flydubai flight.

For those who missed how the story unfolded, there was a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, and the co-pilot was Omani. That’s illegal. You’re not allowed to fly into Tel Aviv unless the country from which you hail has some sort of diplomatic agreement with Israel.

Oman does not, and so that issue is still under investigation. 

The Indian pilot is the first hero of the story. He was being stabbed to death by his co-pilot, and he somehow managed to get to the door to the cockpit and pry it open enough that he could notify people outside that something was happening.

At the front of the cabin were a bunch of Israelis who rushed to the cabin and ripped out the co-pilot, who apparently was trying to destroy all the equipment in the cockpit so that he could fly it into the ground or fly it into Israeli airspace and crash it into an Israeli target in a 9/11-style attack.

The Israeli who grabbed the co-pilot was a plumber who watched a show called Air Disasters and knew enough to pull the plane out of freefall and stabilize it enough for a secondary crew aboard to flatten it out.

Meanwhile, an Israeli medical professional on the plane stabilized the pilot, making sure he didn’t bleed to death on the flight. 

Israelis are amazing. If you were going to name a population on a plane that was likely to have men who would jump into action because they had prior military experience, it would be Israelis. 

Let’s be clear, this was a miracle. Everyone aboard that plane should be dead. The plane entered a tailspin. Part of the rudder ripped off because it was flying at speeds the plane was not built to handle. The pilot opened the cockpit door moments before collapsing. The heroes happened to be at the front of the plane. Pilots who could fly the plane safely were aboard.

The Saudis refused any air force from Israel or commercial aircraft landing in Israel to get these people home after the plane landed in Saudi Arabia, which is vile.

God touched this flight because there are a thousand ways this could have ended not only in tragedy, but in an international crisis.  

What was averted here is truly extraordinary, and the heroism of the people involved can’t be overstated. But the bottom line is this, as it is always and forever when it comes to Islamic terrorism: You can either fight, or you can surrender. 

Those are the two choices. Israelis choose to fight. Great Britain and much of the West are choosing to surrender.

U.K. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband issued a statement calling the attack an “incident.” He couldn’t even say “terrorist attack” or “hijacking.” It was an “incident.” He spoke as if it had been a mechanical failure instead of a co-pilot stabbing a pilot almost to death and then trying to slam the plane into the desert. 

What is amazing to watch right now is the split in the West over whether to fight radical Islamist enemies or surrender to them.

The Trump administration has done something different than any administration of my lifetime. They’ve actually stood up to the Iranian terror regime.

That’s why Iran, as the IRGC trumpeted, is now seeking desperately to get Democrats elected. The Iranians are saying everything out loud. They want the West to surrender, and they know the party most likely to grant them the surrender is the Democratic Party. 

Americans need to wake up. You’re being told by the IRGC who to vote for. They shot 50,000 people in the streets back in January. They keep women in a state of panic and attack every country in the region. 

Iran’s goal is to do to the entire West what al-Qaeda did to Spain in 2004: Pursue terrorist attacks. Up the ante. Create more chaos. Plus, increase oil prices and hope that the West caves because the Islamic world is a shame culture. They believe that if you are shamed, if somehow you lose face, you’re going to run away.

What should the West be doing?

Standing up. Standing tall. Growing a spine. 

Doing what’s necessary to preserve ourselves and our civilization.

And there’s only one party that’s interested in doing that.
