On Friday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt amplified new Politico polling, which shows 81% of self-identified MAGA Republicans approve of Trump’s military action in Iran.

Leavitt previously touted the same group’s 100% approval of Trump in an NBC News poll.

“As I’ve said repeatedly, Americans trust President Trump as their Commander-in-Chief and support his efforts to eliminate terrorist threats and keep us safe,” Leavitt stated in a Friday post on X.

“There is no ‘MAGA fracturing,’ no matter how many times the media tries to claim otherwise.”

The poll suggests the strikes have 43% support among Americans overall, and 61% support among non-MAGA Trump supporters.

But the polling also goes into more granular detail on how Americans and the president’s core base interpret the conflict in light of his 2024 campaign’s anti-war stance.

The survey asked whether Trump broke his pledge to not start new wars if elected. Across the board, Americans view Trump’s Iran posture as a shift.

A total of 62% of all respondents said Trump’s decision to launch strikes broke his pledge. Out of this bloc, 37% said it did so “unnecessarily” and 25% said it was “necessary given the change in circumstances.”

Only 19% said Trump’s decision to launch strikes had not broken his campaign pledge, and 18% didn’t know.

Among the MAGA Republicans of whose support Leavitt boasts, a 55% majority characterized the war as breaking a campaign pledge—with 36% saying it was necessary, and 19% saying it was unnecessary. Meanwhile, 37% said it did not break a pledge.

Additionally, 61% of non-MAGA Trump supporters thought the war broke a promise.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
