The council thanked its “featured speaker” and “featured retriever” on X the next day.
What a night! Thank you to everyone who made The Business Dinner possible, and a special thank you to our featured speaker, Kirk Herbstreit, and featured retriever, Peter!????????
A strong business climate doesn’t happen by accident. It takes leadership, innovation, and a shared commitment to creating jobs, strengthening our communities, and building opportunities for the next generation of Alabamians. That’s what made this evening so special: bringing together the business leaders, people, and ideas that continue to move Alabama forward!

Awful Announcing, citing David Covucci’s FOIAball newsletter, reported that Progress PAC has donated $2.6 million to Republican candidates in Alabama since 2024, while giving $260,000 to Democrats.
The outlet suggested Herbstreit’s appearance contradicts his comments last month that he doesn’t closely follow politics. The remarks followed criticism of ESPN’s College GameDay interview with Sen. Ted Cruz about college sports legislation. The network was blasted for not giving equal time to an opposing viewpoint.

Cruz appeared as a guest speaker on Sept. 12, where he promoted The Protect College Sports Act. The promotion drew criticism — with viewers pointing to a lack of an opposing viewpoint. https://t.co/19bAiKiRFb

Herbstreit did not take part in the discussion with Cruz. He has described himself as politically independent, saying, “I don’t really get into politics,” and, “So whoever helps us as a country, I’m for. Whether that’s somebody on the left, somebody on the right.”
