How A Plane Full Of Israelis Fought Terrorists — And The Media Narrative

On Wednesday, as everyone knows by now, there was an attempted terrorist attack on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv.

Initially, reports said there had been an altercation between the pilot and co-pilot. But what actually happened is that a couple hours into the flight, the Omani co-pilot repeatedly stabbed the pilot, who was Indian, and tried to take control of the plane and then drive it directly into the ground. The plane plummeted more than 14,000 feet in under 30 seconds.

170 people were on board; 166 were Israeli citizens.

Once the attack began, the pilot must have somehow hit the emergency button and opened the cockpit door, or the Israeli passengers broke it down. Crew members and passengers managed to break through the cockpit door and subdue the attacker. 

It was a plane filled with Israelis. That means that a huge number of the Israeli men on the plane presumably had military training and background. They subdued the Omani pilot. A reserve pilot on board, apparently from Fiji, was rushed into the cockpit by the passengers, who protected him.

A doctor stabilized the pilot so that he survived until the plane landed. When the plane landed, the Israelis started singing “Am Yisrael Chai,” which means “The people of Israel live.”

An investigation is still underway into whether there was coordination with the Iranian government, since Iran and Oman have a quasi-alliance. What was prevented here was an international crisis, because this would have been a crisis involving Oman, the UAE, Israel, and India – essentially involving every country in the region.

And the passengers stood up and prevented the massive tragedy. It is worth noting at this point that the Israeli public is built differently. 

If you are on a plane and it is filled with 175 Israelis, the chances that you are going to end up with some people on the plane who are militarily competent are virtually 100%. The chance that there will be a doctor on the plane is virtually 100%. The chance that people will be willing to offer aid is going to be very, very high. The durability and capability of the Israeli public are incredible.

The media coverage was insane. According to the New York Times, “FlyDubai flight to Tel Aviv issues distress signal before landing in Saudi Arabia.”

Oh, is that what happened?

How about this one from the Times: “A plane flying from Dubai to Israel was diverted after an altercation between the pilot and copilot, Israeli officials said.”

An altercation? Like that time that OJ Simpson had an altercation with his ex-wife who ended up beheaded?

It is beyond comprehension to watch the media turn themselves into pretzels to ignore what is clearly an act of Islamic terrorism. 

Yahoo!: “FlyDubai flight diverted to Saudi Arabia after reported fight between pilots.”

The BBC: “Passengers tell Israeli media a pilot was stabbed as flight total plunged 17,000 ft and diverted to Saudi Arabia. An Israeli passenger on board says the crew asked for help and that the passengers helped tackle one of the pilots and tie him down.”

So who did it? It’s all a mystery. 

The media are not just terrible at their jobs; they are actively conspiring to cover up the actual story. If you can read the headline of a story and come away with precisely the opposite of the truth, the media has failed.

The passengers on the flight finally went home. There was a bit of a hubbub in Saudi Arabia because the Saudis — who still have not normalized relations with the Israelis — were trying to ban an Israeli plane from landing to get their own people home.

There are still many questions, including why the co-pilot wasn’t flagged in advance. How did he end up flying the plane?  Back in March, El Al stopped flights to the UAE because it was concerned about security.

FlyDubai is a government-owned airline, so it’s pretty embarrassing for the UAE government; the Emiratis will have to do a harsh investigation. 

In the end, all credit goes to the passengers on the plane, to the pilot — who’s a hero — for fighting off the person trying to stab him to death, making sure that the transponder got hit, making sure the door was open enough that he could be saved.

And give no credit to the media, whose intentional blindness is leading us down the road to ruin.
