How Leftism’s Appetite For The Destruction Of Order Will Be Our Undoing

Thomas Sowell is credited with a warning that has never been more timely: “If you are not prepared to use force to defend civilization, then be prepared to accept barbarism.”

Lately, it has become painfully obvious to anyone paying attention that Democrats have an aversion to necessary force, an apathy toward upholding the civilization they despise, and an appetite for ingesting and regurgitating barbarism.

Take Angie Nixon, the insufferably irritating socialist running for Senate in Florida. (Good luck, sis. The beach babes and boys of the Sunshine State don’t take kindly to commies.) She recently declared that prisons are modern-day slavery:

Like, it’s not radical, it’s not extreme to want to make sure that we end for-profit prisons! What’s wrong with that?! Because all they want is cheap labor or free labor. Modern day slavery, right?! There’s nothing wrong with wanting to end modern day slavery. There is nothing wrong with wanting to make sure that people have the things they need to live a decent high quality life!

Like, yeah, girl!

Like, let’s just close the prisons! Let the prisoners lounge in their beds all day, excused from cooking, cleaning, and organizing, spared the productive rhythms of a jail ecosystem that simulates real-world accountability and reminds inmates of the value of hard work and the dollar! Like, what even is a prisoner, anyway?

Barbarism. Coming soon to a city near you.

Miss Nixy must not be acquainted with the 13th Amendment, ratified in 1865, which abolished slavery and involuntary servitude “except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.” That carve-out permits work assignments for convicted inmates: kitchen duty, laundry, maintenance, manufacturing. It is the exception the amendment’s authors deliberately wrote in.

She might also be flabbergasted to learn that wages are low (federal inmates in standard prison jobs earn roughly 12 to 40 cents per hour, and some states pay nothing at all) because the labor is part of the sentence. It’s punishment…yes, but it also curbs idleness, imposes structure, and gives inmates practice earning a paycheck. It’s like the play money from my basement grocery store: not worth much besides the principal. And the principal pays off. The Bureau of Prisons’ own long-term research found that inmates who worked in prison industries were about 24% less likely to reoffend after release, and less likely to commit misconduct behind bars.

Nobody has ever committed a felony to break into the lucrative world of cafeteria services, with its generous wages, unmatched upward mobility, and paid maternity leave. Prison isn’t about making money. (Unless you’re a scrappy drug dealer, of course.) The point is to keep violent offenders off the streets, lower crime, and keep law-abiding citizens safe. The small income is an added bonus.

And it is small, whether the convict sits in a private facility or a federal one. Notably, for-profit prisons house only about 8% of America’s prisoners, so abolishing them would barely scratch the system Miss Nixy claims to be fighting. Would she prefer every prison be government-run and nationalized, with more taxes, more bureaucracy, and more fraud?

Ostensibly. Miss Nixy is a Democratic Socialists of America member, after all, someone who craves the warmth of government-issued collectivism. But the likelier scenario is that she wants neither. She’d love nothing more than to abolish the for-profit prisons, the federal prisons, all the prisons! Let these freaks fly!

Including the criminal illegal aliens. Mass amnesty for them too, because barbarism.

They have no problem letting the criminals run free, because if the chaos happens to tear down this supremacist system, our cis-preferring civilization, and colonialist country, then all the better! Let’s just start fresh. Put the women in charge this time! My kin has been stellar recently, killing their kids left and right, retroactively claiming gang-rape despite consent on college campuses, and demanding we let trannies storm the WNBA. 

Miss Nixy’s other impetus for abolition is her belief that “our children” aren’t being educated and are instead funneled into the school-to-prison pipeline.

Socialists do love to say “our children,” don’t they? As if your child were a communal asset. Freaks.

But does Nixy know something I don’t? Is she aware of schools teaching young kiddos to rob, deal drugs, and commit violent crimes? Even Nikole Hannah-Jones’s daughter, at her school, was still taught fractions and not fentanyl measurements, though wholly incorrectly.

Or maybe, just maybe, and don’t shoot the messenger, the problem isn’t solely the education kids receive but the home environment, which festers little criminals at disproportionate rates in certain communities.

After all, the Justice Department’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention found that children from single-parent families are more likely to become delinquent than children from two-parent homes.

So is the fix to eliminate prisons entirely? Or could it be, and I’m just spitballing here, that we change the mindset, habits, and domestic space of children before they grow up to commit crimes?

In a society where criminals are forgiven, murderers are praised, and accountability is nonexistent, barbarism flourishes. You’re seeing it in France, where masked rioters are burning the cities and firemen. You’re seeing it in the U.K., where criminal rapists and terrorists are let off with a slap on the wrist. And sadly, you’re seeing it in parts of America, where “innocent until proven guilty” depends on the gender, assault only gets national attention if the perps are white, and everyone can forgo jail entirely if they utter the magic words: post-partum depression.

Socialists are allergic to solutions; they only perpetuate problems. Don’t invite chaos. Criminalize it, condemn it, and keep it out.
