“We are watching your cowardly officials and commanders, pilots and wicked soldiers,” Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi, a spokesperson for Iran’s armed forces, said, according to state-run media. “From now on, based on the information we have on you, the promenades, resorts and tourist and entertainment centres in the world will not be safe for you either.”

The threat comes as Israeli strikes have eliminated several top Iranian officials in recent weeks, including the February 28 assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as senior figures such as Ali Larijani, Gholamreza Soleimani, and most recently, the IRGC spokesperson Ali Mohammad Naini.

U.S. officials have long warned that Iran engages in overseas assassination plots and targeting of American diplomats. In November 2024, an Iran-linked operative was charged with coordinating a murder-for-hire scheme to kill then-President-elect Donald Trump.

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley has also faced credible threats from Iranian-linked actors after being placed on a “kill list,” including a foiled plot disclosed during her presidential campaign.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, his aide Brian Hook, and former National Security Advisors John Bolton and Robert O’Brien have also been identified as targets of Iranian threats and received Secret Service protection after leaving their roles.

Iran has continued to target tourist sites across the Middle East, including several hotels, airports, and tourist locations. The U.S. Embassy in Bahrain is urging American citizens to leave and avoid hotels as they “might be a target for future attacks.”

Iran has also struck religious sites in Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
