According to the Washington Free Beacon, the first lady of New York City celebrated the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, designated by the State Department as a terrorist group. She also cheered on the First Intifada against Israel.

The Beacon reported that Duwaji, now 28, posted on the social media website Tumblr under the pseudonym “diimashq.” This account posted a photo of Palestinian terrorist Leila Khaled in 2017 with the caption “If it does good for my cause, I’ll be happy to accept death.”

Duwaji, who is originally from Syria, reportedly made other posts in support of members of the PFLP. She posted a photo of terrorist Shadia Abu Ghazaleh in a tribute for International Women’s Day. Ghazaleh participated in several deadly bombings in Israel in the 1960s before accidentally blowing herself up with a bomb she was making for a terrorist attack in Tel Aviv.

In 2015, Duwaji also reposted a Tumblr account supporting attacks on U.S. troops.

“*taps mic* American soldiers fighting in imperialist wars are not brave nor are they fighting for anyone’s freedom,” the post stated. “They are mercilessly slaughtering 3rd world civilians and fighting to maintain American hegemony. That is all, thank you! *drops mic*”

These revelations come shortly after reports that Duwaji produced art featured in an article by an anti-Israel activist. The author previously had said the Oct. 7 terror attack on Israel was “spectacular,” and had called Jews “vampires,” among other derogatory names.

Mamdani said in response that he found the author’s language unacceptable.

“I think that that rhetoric is patently unacceptable. I think it’s reprehensible,” he said.

“As is common for freelance illustrators, the first lady was commissioned to illustrate an excerpt of a book by a third party. She has never engaged with or met with the author, nor has she seen the tweets that you’re referring to,” he told reporters.

That story followed a report in early March that Duwaji had “liked” a series of Instagram posts celebrating the Oct. 7 attack.

Mamdani, in a news conference, condemned the terrorist attack and said that his wife is a “private person.”

“My wife is the love of my life, and she’s also a private person who has held no formal position on my campaign or in my City Hall,” Mamdani said. “I, however, was elected to represent all 8.5 million people in the city, and I believe that it’s my responsibility, because of that role, to answer any questions about my thoughts and my policies and my decisions.”

The Daily Signal reached out to the mayor’s press office about this story but did not receive a response by publication time.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
