Local law enforcement reportedly believes the shooting was linked to Somali gang violence.
“Just look at what’s happening in the once great state of Minnesota,” Trump said at his rally in Youngstown, Ohio. “Last week, savage Somali gang members shot two people in the high school parking lot in the middle of a football game.”
The October 2 shooting outside Eden Prairie High School left two males, ages 18 and 17, with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries. Authorities evacuated the stadium and postponed the rivalry football game. Neither teenager attended either school.
Eden Prairie High School Principal Jaysen Anderson canceled the following evening’s homecoming dance, saying that holding the event less than 24 hours after a “trauma in our community” would feel out of place.
“This is not what we want in this country. We don’t want this,” Trump added at his rally in Ohio.
“All they do is kill each other in the streets. Then they come into the United States of America and they tell us how to run our country. We’re not going to stand for it. They drive up taxes. They drive up health care costs, insurance costs, child care costs, and they cheat on everything,” he continued. “It’s a disaster, and we’re not going to stand for it.”
Just over a week after the shooting, the suspected gunman, 18-year-old Adam Abdihakeem Adam, was back on the street after posting a $10,000 cash bond. The White House responded to Adam’s release, blasting the judge.
“Adam Abdihakeem Adam was arrested for shooting up a Minnesota suburban high school football game. Police believe the shooting to be connected to rival Somali gangs. A Radical Left judge immediately granted him a no-condition bail,” the White House said.
Trump also criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), a Somali immigrant, for what he believes is her role in the state’s decline.
“She comes in from a country without laws, without police, without military … all they do is shoot each other and she comes into our country,” Trump said at the rally.
Earlier on Monday, federal agents searched Omar’s Washington, D.C., home. The Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire the raid was connected to an investigation into Omar’s immigration history.
“This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.”
Omar left Somalia as a child in 1995 and became an American citizen in 2000. Border czar Tom Homan confirmed that authorities are looking into whether Omar married her brother to commit immigration fraud. The accusations stem from Omar’s marriage in 2009 to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi whom she separated from in 2011 and formally divorced in 2017. Attorney General Todd Blanche declined to comment on whether Omar could be deported if the investigation finds she did commit immigration fraud by marrying her brother.
Omar called the investigation a “weaponization” of federal law enforcement.
“Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” she said. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”
