Why would a women’s prison need a condom machine? I repeat: Why would a women’s prison need a condom machine?

Ask the Left. They are the ones who, in 2020, signed a law allowing biological men into California’s women’s prisons if they identified as transgender. And they are the ones who apparently never paused to consider the consequences of placing male felons in a female-only space, where an estimated 92% of inmates have been battered or abused.
It’s been over five years since a law came into effect allowing biological men into women’s prisons in California if they identify as transgender, and the consequences have been devastating, says Amie Ichikawa, an advocate for female inmates and founder of Woman II Woman.
“These are men that are tattooed from head to toe. 33.8 percent are registered sex offenders.”
“They were advertised as delicate flowers who needed a safe place to do their time, and they sent the exact people that they said they wouldn’t send.”
“They said: there would be no sex offenders; there would be no woman beaters; there would be no one with a long history of violence against women. And that’s exactly who they sent.”
“I can’t think of any worse demographic of people to send into the women’s prison, knowing that 92 percent of that population are survivors of some kind of sexual abuse.”
“These people don’t even have to present as female.”
“When they started to install the condom machines into the women’s prisons after the transfers started, I thought there’s nothing lower than this. Nothing.”

One of those consequences? Turns out burly, tattooed, isolated men like to have sex. The state’s solution was not separation, not cones of shame, not castration (unless it’s taxpayer-funded gender surgery, of course). It was condom machines.
It was a recipe for disaster, and disaster is precisely what it delivered. It is yet another example of the empathy myopia I wrote about Monday, in which the Left extends such hyperactive empathy that it tramples the very people outside its purported cause, who never asked for its killer compassion in the first place.
Empathy myopia, a phenomenon psychologist Paul Bloom and others have examined, is the cognitive bias in which a person feels intense empathy for one individual or a small group while remaining blind and wholly indifferent to the broader data and the long-term consequences.
Ain’t that the truth.
Our lovely Left pities every allegedly victimized and oppressed transgender-identifying person, so it builds safe spaces for them in every corner of life, regardless of the damage. The confused male must feel better, because this minority member’s feelings trump all. So they let him have surgery at 13. They let him sue his parents for protesting. They let him play on the girls’ track team and use their locker room. They let him serve his sentence in the same cell block as women, and then they reward his bad behavior with rubber protection.
And as for everyone else, screw ’em!
Amie Ichikawa, who now runs the nonprofit Woman II Woman, served nearly five years at the Central California Women’s Facility before her release in 2013. When the first busload of men arrived at the prison in 2021, women inside started reaching out to her. According to state prison data from 2021, 33.8% of the men who requested transfers to women’s prisons in California were registered sex offenders.
Of course, the libs will tell you these aren’t 200-pound, hirsute men with sleeve tattoos and an appetite for intercourse. These are women. Duh. Don’t be a bigot!
Except, according to Ichikawa, these prison papis don’t even have to present as female. They simply utter the magic T-word (not testosterone; they hate that one!), transgender, and poof, the floodgates of the women’s prison swing wide.
Does the Left care that the female inmates were terrified when the men arrived, and more terrified still when the condom dispensers were installed, essentially stamping their assault as inevitable? You would think so, given how swiftly they sprang to the defense of “Jane Doe” last week — the woman allegedly “gang raped” by seven Cornell students — and demanded that the men be held accountable, castrated, and condemned to perdition forever.
The difference, of course, is that all available evidence, including her own sworn statements, contradicts Jane Doe’s rape claim. Every action she took that evening was consensual, optional, and avoidable. Being locked in a cell with a male sex offender against your will? Not so much.
Perhaps the Left has already spoken out, and we just can’t hear them. Hello? Yell louder, feminists! We can’t hear you!
The reality is that they aren’t yelling. They aren’t even whispering. They are indifferent: to the young women raped on trail runs by illegal immigrants; to the 11,000 children rescued from human trafficking rings that ran rampant under the Biden administration; to the 300,000 children our former president lost; to the young female athletes spied on by predatory male eyes in locker rooms across the country; to the career criminals slaughtering women and children in major cities, freed by liberal policies; and to the women assaulted in prison by men who were ushered in by the busload after cockily announcing they felt born in the wrong body.
There are a few explanations. Bloom describes a narrow spotlight of empathy that illuminates the one person or cause in front of us while leaving everyone else in the dark. Psychologist Paul Slovic’s research on “psychic numbing” captures the same quirk: The more victims there are, the less we feel. We are wired to rescue one person and to grow numb as the body count climbs. Maybe that is why the Left latches on to a single Jane Doe but rolls its eyes when you mention how many Americans have been victimized by criminals who entered the country illegally. The number is too large for the psyche to bear.
Or maybe it was never goodwill at all. Maybe it is virtue signaling, a conspicuous display of “compassion” staged for social media and for the clicks, with not an iota of substance or genuine conviction behind it. Maybe they have crossed so many moral lines and executed so many hypocritical reversals that they no longer know where to land on any argument. So they tether themselves to the “victim” no matter what, even when the victim is a criminal, a terrorist, a killer, or all of the above.
And when you point out their nauseating sanctimony, they shrug, laugh, and wave you toward the condom vending machine.
