Fewer Americans reported being victims of heinous crimes like robbery, rape, aggravated assault, or having their vehicle stolen or home invaded in 2025, according to the Justice Department’s latest National Crime Victimization Survey. The survey, conducted annually by the Census Bureau and analyzed by the Justice Department, tracks crime as reported by the victims.
“This report is proof that President Trump’s ‘Make America Safe Again’ agenda is working,” Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward told The Daily Wire. “Under President Trump and Attorney General Blanche, the safety of law-abiding Americans will always come first. This success reinforces our commitment to ensuring every American can live, work, and raise a family without fear.”
The survey found that overall violent crime victimization, including rape/sexual assault, robbery, and aggravated assault, fell 25% in 2025, with 669,000 fewer violent crimes reported then in 2024. In 2024, 8.2 million violent crime victimizations were reported in contrast to 7.5 million in 2025.

Across violent crime categories, aggravated assault fell by 31%, robbery by 27%, property crime by 19%, burglary/trespassing by 25%, and motor vehicle theft by 29%. The declines across these categories were the largest ever one-year drops in the history of the survey, which began in 1973, according to the Justice Department.

The decline in violent crime reported by the public matches the FBI’s findings that violent crime fell in 2025. The bureau estimated that the murder rate was 4.1 per 100,000 people, the lowest in over half a century.
Trump has taken an aggressive approach to crime since beginning his second term, surging federal law enforcement to crime-ridden cities across the country including New Orleans, Washington, D.C., and Memphis, Tennessee.
A year after sending in federal law enforcement to Memphis, murders fell by 37%, sexual assaults by 30%, robberies by 47%, and aggravated assaults by 29%, according to data shared by the U.S. Marshals Service with The Daily Wire. In one year, the Memphis federal task force made 13,000 arrests and seized over 2,200 illegal firearms.
The success of the Memphis crime crackdown has been driven by close cooperation with state officials, including Republican Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee National Guard. Polls have shown that the surge of law enforcement is overwhelmingly popular with Tennesseans.
The D.C. task force found similar success after one year and made 6,000 arrests, including 35 murder suspects and 100 gang members. The task force also found 25 missing children and took over 2,000 illegal firearms.
