You’re Stuck Paying For The Left’s Empathy

Author Gad Saad wrote an incisive book, “Suicidal Empathy: Dying to Be Kind,” arguing that the policy blunders wrecking the West trace back to one miscalibrated virtue: empathy that is hyperactive, aimed at the wrong targets, and indifferent to what happens next.

And with every new headline thrown across our feeds, he is proven right.
Last week, the West was consumed by a story out of New York, where a woman filed a civil lawsuit alleging she was gang raped by frat boys. The accusation rests, so far, on no solid evidence and strikes me as fantastically fabricated. Yet the response has been women online declaring their solidarity in videos captioned “I am Jane Doe.” Meanwhile, American gubernatorial candidates were caught disrespecting our flag and waving foreign ones to flatter their Somali constituents. We were also inundated with images of third-world migrants ransacking once-civilized cities across France in so-called “student protests,” and of British towns under lockdown as truckloads of illegal immigrants were dropped into their communities.
All of this is the fruit of a suicidal empathy that has plagued our hearts and clouded our minds, and, left unchecked, it will destroy our country.
In the wake of the “Jane Doe” saga, one woman took to TikTok to share her own rape story. Because her rapist was an illegal immigrant, she said, she chose not to tell the police. When he texted to ask whether they were good so he could “cover his tracks,” she said yes. He went on to rape multiple other women, she said, and “kept friendships alive with them too.” She then blamed the persistence of rape culture on the fact that rape is defined in binary, black-and-white terms.
I don’t know; it feels to me like in this case rape culture persisted because a rapist’s immigration status was weighed more heavily than the safety of the next woman. But what do I know.
She went on to say, “My rapist ruined my life. And he’s not even the last one that assaulted me.”
It is heartbreaking and infuriating, but also revealing. This woman was willing to subject herself to further harm and humiliation, and to expose other women to the very same fate, because she refused to report a criminal, illegal rapist.
That is suicidal empathy, curdled into myopic sympathy. The collateral damage of the Left’s yearning to shield criminals at all costs, provided they belong to the right victim group, is devastating. Its goodwill is consistently weaponized against the very people who extend it, and against everyone else. It also leaves little room to mourn the true victims: like the 22-year-old raped and murdered on a run by an illegal alien allowed in under Joe Biden, or the 23-year-old heading home from her shift at the pizza shop, only to be butchered on a train by a career criminal.
Suicidal empathy can also look like Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar, who, now campaigning for Minnesota governor, in 2017 addresses a crowd of Somalis in Somali, gleefully waves an upside-down American flag, and boasts that she will keep helping Somalis send money overseas to sway the outcomes of their elections.
SHOCKING ???? This speech alone makes MN Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar totally 100% disqualified to hold any public office whatsoever.
In it, she brags about her role in helping make it easier for Somali thieves to send their ill gotten taxpayer billions in fraud money ???? back to Somalia!
Vote for #LisaDemuthMN. Stop ???? Amy from helping criminals ever again!

Isn’t that suicidally sweet?
In her pursuit of power, she is willing to admit foreigners by the bucketload, not only to propel her to high office but to seat them in positions of influence, where they may vote illegally, defraud the government, flout our laws, impose their own, and disrespect the American flag and the American way.
Allow an invasion to achieve an election. Democrats have run on that strategy for years.
Yet it isn’t sustainable. Her “empathy” will be enlisted as a weapon that inevitably takes her, her fellow leftists, and her state down with them.
This is a state that already houses the largest Somali diaspora in the nation. A state that just saw a Somali-involved double shooting at a high school homecoming game last weekend. A state that is the epicenter of fraud and voter-integrity concerns, from the pandemic-era Feeding Our Future scheme, in which federal prosecutors have alleged roughly $250 million in stolen child-nutrition funds, to the questions now swirling around its elections.
Minnesota’s fraud scandals and parallel societies echo what France is living through now. For two weeks, the French have spent their days watching their lycées burn under the banner of a “student protest.” Maybe with a cigarette in hand, maybe not. Oddly, one flag became synonymous with the unrest, and it wasn’t France’s. Even more odd, these delinquents torched a $65 million high school inaugurated less than 10 years ago, in protest of a lack of resources in education. Just brilliant stuff.
More than 5,000 arrests have been made, more than 600 police and gendarmes have been injured, and hundreds of schools across the region have been shuttered. Why? Suicidal empathy, disguised as “student protest.” When you allow 200,000 migrants to cross your borders every year and inundate society with new populations overnight, populations who don’t always think and act as existing inhabitants do, you get mounting fiscal, housing, and school-capacity pressures that eventually burst. You also get rioters chanting for the police to be killed in the name of “Allah.” You get the destruction of those dying to be kind.
A similar pressure point is being reached in Britain, where locals in Gosport have set up blockades to stop police from ferrying 149 illegal small-boat migrants into town in a multi-car escort. In response, police have been deployed to subdue the British protesters and shield the migrants who had just arrived. Taxpayer-funded law enforcement, defending the guest over the host.
It feels more and more like we are living in a dystopian novel, pining for yesterday, just as Deuteronomy foretold:
In the morning you shall say, “Oh, that it were evening!” And at evening you shall say, “Oh, that it were morning!” because of the fear which terrifies your heart, and because of the sight which your eyes see.
No kidding, Deut.
So why should we steer clear of suicidal empathy, which lets criminals perpetuate crimes unchecked, power slip into the hands of those who hate us, and migrants cross our borders unvetted? Because we still have the option to choose. We still have the power to decide in our country’s favor and to forgo this self-harm.
President Trump shut the floodgates; now we have to trawl the waters. Fish out the corruption, fish out the evil, fish out the predators, and clean the water. It will be hard, but it will lessen crime in the future. It will keep our children safe, our young women safe, our men safe, and our society fruitful.
Suicidal empathy is one thing — dying to be kind. It’s self-harm dressed up as virtue. Myopic sympathy is another — and its damage does not stay with the person performing it. It lands on the next woman, the next train car, the next town that never voted for the policy.
Every act of mercy carries a bill, and too often the Left doesn’t care who gets it, unless the victim fits the narrative.
Before we post the trending video, wave the upside-down flag, or boast about shielding the lawbreaker, we should ask: who pays? If the answer is someone who never agreed to the cost, then you’re ditching empathy for generosity with someone else’s safety.
America, we still have a choice. Or at least, until November 3, 2026. Stop the self-loathing; choose law and order.
