Padilla Calls SAVE America Act An ‘Intimidation’ Tactic During All-Spanish SOTU Reaction Speech

“Despite Trump’s lies, we know what we see with our own eyes,” the California Democrat said, before accusing “masked and armed agents” of “terrorizing our communities” and targeting people on the “color of their skin.”

People are also targeted by ICE for “speaking Spanish,” Padilla added.

Padilla accused federal immigration agents of “shooting cars with families inside,” and “placing people in detention centers without access to doctors, food, and drinking water.”

The “terrorizing” ICE operations Padilla described began last year in Los Angeles and have “since extended to corners across the country,” according to the senator.

The senator claimed election integrity is a Republican attempt to “manipulate” elections.

House Republicans passed the SAVE America Act this February, which would require voters to demonstrate voter ID before casting a ballot if passed by the Senate.

He added that Trump is pushing voter identification to “intimidate” Hispanic voters, describing him as a “dictator.”

“These are tactics we have seen in countries governed by corrupt dictators,” Padilla said. “And just like them, Trump doesn’t want to lose power.”

“Remember this, Donald Trump will not be president forever,” Padilla continued, switching to English.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
