Trump Pushes For ‘Rush Hour’ Comeback — And Hollywood Delivers: Report

The popular “Rush Hour” film franchise will reportedly be resurrected at the request of President Donald Trump.

Paramount Pictures will distribute the fourth sequel of the action franchise starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, as Deadline reported. It’s believed that both lead actors will return to join director Brett Ratner, who was also in charge of previous installments.

Semafor reported that Trump was instrumental in getting the project off the ground because he was a fan of the franchise. He reportedly spoke with Paramount head David Ellison about it. Ellison’s father, Larry Ellison, the billionaire co-founder of Oracle, has a close relationship with President Trump and operates behind the scenes at Paramount.

“Trump appears to want to revive the raucous comedies and action movies of the late 1980s to late 1990s,” the outlet reported. “He’s passionate, for instance, about the 1988 Jean-Claude Van Damme sports flick ‘Bloodsport.’ A person directly familiar with the conversations told Semafor that the president of the United States has personally pressed the Paramount owner to revive another franchise from Ratner: ‘Rush Hour,’ a buddy-cop comedy starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker that blended physical comedy, martial arts and gags about racial stereotypes.”

The Daily Wire reached out to Paramount and the White House for comment.

The big players in “Rush Hour” all have previously made positive remarks about Trump, especially compared to most of TDS-infected Hollywood. Ratner directed a documentary about first lady Melania Trump which will be released in January.

The “Rush Hour” franchise is a classic buddy cop action comedy series chronicling the chaotic adventures of LAPD Detective James Carter (Tucker) and Hong Kong Police Force Chief Inspector Lee (Chan) as they team up to take down international criminals. Their mismatched personalities, fun banter, and high-energy action sequences make them one of the most beloved pairings in the genre.

The first three “Rush Hour” films were huge hits, earning more than $850 million worldwide, per CNBC.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
