How James Talarico Is Trying To Rewrite The Bible On Abortion
Texas Senate hopeful James Talarico, a Democrat, is again claiming the Bible supports his position that the government should allow the murder of unborn babies up until the moment of birth.

During a recently published episode of the hyper-progressive Jamie Kern Lima Show, Talarico claims the Bible is “silent” on abortion and suggests scripture backs his position that the government shouldn’t restrict abortion at all.
“I trust Texas women to make decisions about their own bodies, to shape their own destinies, in consultation with their family members, their doctors, their faith leaders,” Talarico told a delighted-looking Kern Lima.
“That’s a belief I hold, not despite my faith, but because of my faith,” the Democrat said. “Jesus never talks about abortion, the Bible is silent on abortion.”
“We Christians have to take scripture as a whole, and we’ve got to try to make some kind of ethical determination,” Talarico said, adding that this has led him to his position.
“Right now, in Texas, we have the most extreme abortion ban in the country, no exception for rape, no exception for incest,” he said.
“We have girls as young as 10 years old who are assaulted, who are raped, who are victims of incest, and who can’t access basic reproductive care, who aren’t able to make the decision about whether or not they’re going to create.”
Notably, Talarico is not an advocate for only these exceptions being added to Texas’ abortion ban, but instead believes in abortion on demand with zero restrictions.
“And again, just my personal belief is that we have to give women and girls the freedom to make this decision as moral agents, as our sisters in Christ,” he said. “And I’m not saying that’s an easy decision to come to, but that’s where I’ve arrived.”
Christians — Protestants and Catholics alike — have criticized Talarico for using the faith to push for the murder of the unborn.
They’ve pointed to teachings in natural law and specific Bible verses, like Jeremiah 1:5, which reads, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you.” And the Fifth Commandment: “You shall not kill.”
