Alexander Romero-Avila, an illegal immigrant from Honduras who was released under the Biden administration, “began driving recklessly and ran red lights” as federal agents pursued him, before crashing “into multiple vehicles,” including an ICE car, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire.

No civilians or ICE officers were injured in the crash, DHS said. Romero-Avila was transported to a nearby hospital “for evaluation of injuries.”

“Law enforcement immediately called 911 to get medical assistance,” Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

“These dangerous attempts to evade arrest have surged since sanctuary politicians have encouraged illegal aliens to evade arrest and provided guides advising illegal aliens how to recognize ICE, block entry, and defy arrest. Our officers are now facing a 3,200% increase in vehicle attacks,” McLaughlin said.

Anti-ICE demonstrators quickly gathered at the scene of the crash, blowing whistles and recording the incident to alert the public to a federal operation, according to videos circulating online. Local police responded to the crowd, the St. Paul Police Department said in a statement.

Protesters regularly follow federal immigration agents in the Twin Cities, making it all the more challenging for any arrests to be made, as The Daily Wire recently reported during a ride-along with ICE in the area.

St. Paul Democratic Mayor Kaohly Her used the incident to condemn ICE, blaming the agency for the pileup, according to Fox 9.

“The incident today at Selby and Western underscores the fact that ICE is still present, causing chaos, and putting residents at risk in Saint Paul. I want to thank those who continue to show up and keep watch over their neighbors. I also want to thank the Saint Paul Police for staying on the scene to clean up and ensure those impacted received assistance,” Her said.

“Because of the reckless way that ICE is running their operation, one person ended up in the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, and several bystanders had their cars damaged. This is just another incident that tells us loud and clear: Operation Metro Surge needs to end immediately,” she added.

In recent weeks, the Trump administration has sought to quell violence in the streets of Minneapolis and to take a softer approach on raids following two fatal shootings of anti-ICE activists.

One of the activists, Renee Good, appeared to hit an ICE officer with her vehicle, which she attempted to use to block a street federal agents were trying to cross, before shots were fired.

President Donald Trump recently sent border czar Tom Homan to lead the federal effort in Minneapolis, replacing former Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino, who was known for his aggressive, sweeping approach to arrests.

Last week, Homan announced that after meeting with local authorities, he brokered “unprecedented” levels of cooperation, leading the feds to commence a “drawdown” of 700 federal agents.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
