The return of Lane Kiffin to Oxford gave us one of the best photos in the history of college football.
If it’s not the best, it certainly is the contender for photo of the year just a month into the young season.
Hang it in the Louvre!
Meet Abby Miller, the junior Ole Miss student responsible for capturing the perfect moment of the Rebels taunting Kiffin and LSU during their win Saturday night. Miller is currently interning with the school’s sports photography department. She got her start in sports photography while in high school in Nashville.
Prior to the game, Miller took pictures in The Grove of all of the tailgates and the tense scenes during the Walk of Champions. She then went into Vaught Hemingway Stadium for shots of warm-ups and the national anthem.
After taking pictures throughout the first 58 minutes of play, she was able to grab the emotional moment of the Rebels getting their revenge on Kiffin after the head coach left them during the College Football Playoffs last season.
“I saw it coming when I saw [Sam] Leavitt throw the ball, and the way it went, I was at the very top of the student section, which is pretty big,” she told The Sporting News. “It was crazy, it was rowdy, but that was my assignment from my boss.”
The best part about Miller’s story is that she was so locked in, she didn’t even realize she got the now iconic image.
“The funny part is, with the photo that I actually got that went viral, I didn’t even realize that it took until the next day, because I didn’t even realize that moment quite literally happened, because I was so focused on getting them celebrating,” Miller explained. “I didn’t even realize the whole picture that was going on.”
“When you’re taking sports photos, you can’t just kind of half-do it. Like you have to be fully locked [in] when you’re taking it. You need to be able to predict almost what is going to happen,” she added. “Like what play is coming? What might they do?”

Miller could not thank everyone enough for spreading her work, but I think we college football fans need to be thanking her more for perfectly capturing one of the best storylines of the season.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies.
