‘White Hot Glare’: Michelle Obama Complains About America’s Racism, Time In White House

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is discussing America’s supposed racism and complaining about her time in the White House.

During an upcoming special, Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts reads quotes from Obama’s new book, “The Look,” which, in part, opines about the scrutiny Obama says she felt from white people in America.

“You said, ‘We were all too aware that as the first black couple, we couldn’t afford any missteps,'” Roberts read. “And you also say, ‘As a black woman, I was under a particularly white hot glare.'”

“Did you feel that?” Roberts asked Obama.

“For sure,” she answered.

“You can’t afford to get anything wrong, because you didn’t — at least until the country came to know us — we didn’t get the grace that I think some other families have gotten,” the former first lady continued.

Radio host Buck Sexton commented on the remarks, “Starting to feel like maybe Michelle Obama is a bitter malcontent addicted to complaining about her incredibly privileged life.”

Obama has talked about her time in the White House previously, calling it isolating and complaining that the family had to pay for their food and travel. The Obamas are reportedly worth $70 million.

“Much is not covered,” Obama said earlier this year. “You’re paying for every food, every bit of food that you eat … you’re not paying for housing and the staff in it … but everything, even travel, if you’re not traveling with the president, if you’re kids are coming on a Bright Star, which is the first lady’s plane, we had to pay for their travel to be on the plane.”

Obama has focused much on race. Just days ago, she complained about black women having to spend “thousands of hours” and lots of money on their hair if they try to straighten in, instead of wearing it natural and curly.

The former first lady also famously suggested in 2008 that it was the first time she was proud of her country as an adult woman when the nation voted for her husband during the Democrat presidential primaries.

“But what we’ve learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback,” she said at the time. “It is making a comeback and let me tell you something: For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country.”

“And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change,” Obama continued. “And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I’ve seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues and it’s made me proud.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
