William D. DeFoor, 26, was arrested after Secret Service agents caught him breaking windows in Vance’s Cincinnati home, and now faces both federal and local vandalism charges. Vance, who had left the home with his family prior to the attack, addressed the issue during an interview with CNN commentator and Salem radio host Scott Jennings, who asked him how the family was handling the situation.

“Our family’s doing fine. Thanks for asking,” Vance said when Jennings asked. “You know, we had left Cincinnati a few hours before the attack, and whenever we’re in town, it’s obviously a well-known thing because there are barricades everywhere, the security presence goes up on our street, and so I guess this person probably assumed we were still there and decided to make an attack.”

“I don’t know if they were trying to break in, that’s my intuition just because they went and hammered the windows,” Vance continued. “But of course, we have stronger windows than most because I’m a protectee of the Secret Service, and so eventually realized they weren’t getting anywhere, ran off, and were captured.”

Vance said that he was unsure of the motive and wasn’t trying to second guess any ongoing investigations, but did assert that the person responsible for the attack was “clearly a very sick individual. The good thing is, my kids are young enough, they have no idea what’s going on and they don’t read the news, so they have no idea that their home was attacked by a crazy person with a hammer … there are crazy people out there and we’re thankful for the Secret Service.”

DeFoor, the son of a wealthy pediatric urologist, had reportedly been going by the name “Julia” on social media in recent weeks — and has a history of both vandalism and mental health issues.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
