‘Is This a Babylon Bee Headline?’: Massachusetts Appoints Trans Activist to Women’s Commission

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, D-Mass., is drawing fire from conservatives for appointing Giselle Byrd, a biological male transgender activist, as the new vice chair of the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women’s Programming and Planning Committee. The appointment became effective Nov. 1.

“Is this a Babylon Bee headline?” Massachusetts Family Institute wrote on Facebook last Wednesday, as the news sparked harsh criticism of the state’s decision. “No, in fact, this is the logical conclusion of feminism in Massachusetts society. Feminism suggests that women can do anything men can do. If this is true, then there is basically no difference between the sexes. If there [is] no distinction between male and female, then why can’t a woman become a man, or vice versa? If men and women are basically the same, then this man, Giselle Byrd, is perfectly justified in wearing the female form like a Halloween costume.”

“Our state thought that when we threw God out of the public square, we would become more sophisticated and advanced. Instead, we bought a regressive lie [masquerading] as progressive truth. Massachusetts has rejected God’s perfect design for marriage and sexuality. This is the sad result.”

Byrd, the executive director of the Theater Offensive in Boston and activist at several LGBT non-profits, was initially appointed in August.

American journalist Megyn Kelly joined the criticism of Byrd’s appointment, sarcastically writing on X, “Men make the best women, we all know that.”

In an effort to halt biological males from participating in women’s sports, the Trump administration has returned Title IX to its original intent, defining sex based on biological sex at birth, rather than gender identity. President Donald Trump signed an executive order “Keeping Men out of Women’s Sports,” back in February that states agencies and public schools will lose federal funds if they fail to comply with Title IX’s definition of sex.

Moreover, the International Olympic Committee announced a new policy last week that would bar trans-athletes from competing against biological women. “We understand that there’ll be differences depending on the sport … but it was very clear from the members that we have to protect the female category, first and foremost to ensure fairness,” IOC President Kirsty Coventry said.

“But we need to do that with a scientific approach and the inclusion of the international federations who have already done a lot of work in this area.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
