‘Really?’: Bill Maher Shocked To Hear How Unsafe NYC Has Become — Even In Broad Daylight
Comedian and HBO host Bill Maher appeared taken aback when his guest, actor Michael Rapaport, revealed just how unsafe people feel in New York City — even during the daylight hours.
Rapaport joined Maher on his “Club Random” podcast, where he described a number of situations in which his wife had felt unsafe in New York City — and then told Maher that every scenario he’d described had taken place between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

“I want people to feel safe in New York City. I want my wife to feel safe. My wife is a tough broad — she doesn’t feel safe in Midtown Manhattan during the day!” Rapaport began.
“Really!?” Maher appeared surprised.
“Yeah,” Rapaport confirmed.
“Really, like going out for lunch?” Maher asked, still apparently in disbelief.

“I’m not saying she’s f***ing shaking in her boots,” Rapaport clarified, and then described several scenes: “My wife in the last two or three years has been groped in Times Square, has had a f***ing shoe thrown at her, has been called the N-word and got proposed to on the train by a homeless person — all between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.”
“And when my wife got touched in the middle of the day coming out of a play, I’m not happy with that,” Rapaport continued. “I don’t care that you’re homeless! Don’t touch my f***ing wife! It bothered me so deeply that this happened to her, and that she’s got a shoe thrown at her …”
“Why a shoe?” Maher wanted to know.
“Because a crazy person,” Rapaport replied. “Crazy. But when you touch my wife, and my wife is violated, I get to thinking, I’m sorry that you’re mentally ill. I’m sorry that whatever you’re on, and whatever got you to this place, but you’re touching my wife at 3 p.m. at 47th and 6th. I want this person put the f*** away forever. Period! And there’s other women in New York City that also feel uncomfortable and unsafe.”
“I’m comfortable saying, ‘Put him under the f***ing jail.’ And he should never come out — ’cause God forbid he comes out and does something worse!” Rapaport concluded, saying, “It’s not cool for women to feel unsafe during the daytime in the greatest city on earth.”
