BREAKING: Trump Reacts to Shooting of 2 National Guard Members

Two members of the National Guard were shot in Washington on Wednesday, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a post on X while the White House said it was on lockdown, with President Donald Trump away in Florida.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey initially said in a X post that the two of the state’s National Guard members who were shot in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday had died of their injuries, before later posting his office was “now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we receive more complete information.”

“The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price,” posted Trump on Truth Social Wednesday afternoon.

“God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!” he added.

Police in Washington separately said there was a shooting one block from the White House on Wednesday, and that one suspect was in custody with the area secured.

“The president has been briefed,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said.

Attorney General Pam Bondi posted on X that “[f]ederal agents are on the scene of the horrific shooting … PRAY for our DC National Guard.”

FBI Director Kash Patel also posted on X that the “FBI is engaged and assisting with the investigation … we will update with more information as we are able.”

Vice President JD Vance urged prayers for the 2 National Guard members shot while speaking in Kentucky.

Stacey Walters, 43, was in an Uber near the White House around 2:15 p.m. ET when she heard two loud booms and saw young children and other pedestrians running from the scene.

She said she heard someone yell “Help! Help!” and saw what appeared to be U.S. Secret Service agents running after someone in a hooded sweatshirt.

Trump is at his resort in Palm Beach ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

The U.S. Secret Service did not respond to a request for comment.

National Guard soldiers have been in Washington since August, when Trump deployed them to the streets as part of his crackdown on immigration and crime in Democratic-led cities. As of Wednesday, there were about 2,200 National Guard troops in Washington, including troops from the district as well as Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, West Virginia, Georgia and Alabama.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
